Dave;
On that photo of your bed, are those rivets in the holes in the side used for mounting the longitudinal seats? To me, that would indicate it never had seats.

No Phil. Those are holes for the longitudal seat brackets. Inside surrounding the holes are the flat steel plate braces

Oh I think I know why the confusion: some of the last photos are of my freinds truck (travelfix) who posted pics of his bed. Is that want you see and are commenting on?

Yes! Looking back that is Bob's truck and not yours.
Mine has the reinforced plates as well with two holes through the plate and a 3rd hole above. One day I'll get around to putting in the seats.

Dave,
If you get a chance, could you post a few images of how your seat bottom and backs are installed/fastened? I plan on making plywood base/back and cover with foam like most are doing. I was wondering if the seat bottom just sat in the frame with some lip or something, or was it screwed in somehow?

One thing after another since getting it on the road.
recently I noticed a high speed "miss" or stumbling.. after lots of posts and answers from others in the hobby, they suggested not only the spark plug gap of 0.035" should be 0.025", I also should probably look at my distributor for worn bushings. Lo and behold, the distributor was in fact pretty loose.. removed and at a local starter rebuilder who will re-bush it for me.
in the process of all this, I noticed the distributor had a bit of a "wobble" when then engine running, hummm. I assumed that the loose bushings were the culprit.. however, it came to light that PERHAPS the engine rebuilder used a M37 oil pump, with offset tang, and could be the cause of this wobbling.. and ultimatly the quick wearing of the bushings. (thats my next step. looking into this oil pump)
In the meantime i found a NOS exact distributor I am using on ebay and purchased it as well. nice to have spares.
what else for my so called "complete" truck?
Couldnt get it started one day. just DEAD.. nothing. cleaned cable connections, nothing still. went so far as to remove starter and brought to starter rebuild shop where he verified all is well with it, and even said it appears to be recent rebuild (which I was told when I got the engine)
back in.. NOTHING!! dang.. well finally got that figured out with a cleaner connection for the POS cable, AND in the process of investigation found my battery had a dead cell. even though the dang thing registered 12.5 V. fully charged..New battery and new ground cable later and she now starts..
so the point in all this above is, "it aint done.... ever!""
ha!! and thats fine. its part of the "FUN" of owning and older vehicle I guess. Ill update later what I find on the oil pump issue causing the wobbling of the distro.. I always assumed that because of the offset tang to mate to the distro that a civy distro wouldnt even engage into a M37 oil pump?? I guess its possible>
happy trails and even happier debugging to all building now!!

yea, well it looks like the build up took about a year, but the "debugging" taking a bit longer! My restoration is coming up to the one year since its arrival to me.. that date was June 19th.. less than one year later I got me a driver..a full blown tear down and build up in one year

Re: New 1/2 ton Dodge WC-12 project
Well hopefully my stumbling falling and getting up again does help others in the process!!
Btw. Pulled oil pump. Looks like a civy unit after all. Albeit the tang recess is a bit non centered on this unit. Still it' appears as if it's NOT AN m37 pump after all. Regardless I got a new pump on order and should be here today or tommorow. I'll install the new one and see if it cures the distro "wobbling". If not I don't know where else to look. if this new pump don't do it, then it's something else causing the wobble. Who the heck knows.

Update.
Got it! The new oil pump was definately the cure in fixing my "wobbling" distributor. Nice and tight now with no wobbling. Runs good too with the NOS distributor in there.
Still need to take it out on the road and see how it performs and/or if that high speed "miss" is now gone or not. Maybe today. Not sure. Weather not been the best lately

Davey,
I'm Glad to here you got it worked out and I learned a lot reading this thread. Thanks for going so deep into the trouble shooting and problem solving, not all of us are mechanics.
Best of luck with your truck,

Been doing very little on the truck as of late with the weather and all, but I did decided to clean up, paint and install the rear facing marble reflectors I had.
I had already installed the bed side marble reflectors. Now its down to the last two.
now as we all know, from past discussions, there were not only a number of reflector types correct for the 1/2 ton trucks, there were a few ways in which they were mounted, evident by various TM's and other parts books. some where mounted on the tailgate, others on the flat panel attached to the rear stake pocket.
Now when I got my truck, previous owner included a set of the flat mounting plates. I been on and off about using them, per the manual, for trucks equipped to take the flat plates, or simply drill holes and put them on my tailgate.
well, as my truck had the correct mounting points on the rear bed stake pocket for these plates (i.e. pass thru on bottom, threaded nut insert on top) i decided to at least mount them and see how I like them.
I'm on the fence about the look, and actually, the practability of these plates. They do stick out a bit, and one must watch not getting hung up on them as you round the back of the truck. I can see why if these pates were an early on feature and they discontinued the use of them and put them on the tailgate for later production.
still they are correct, and for sure correct for MY truck having the mounting holes/insert in the stake pocket. My bed is the original that came with my truck too. I know, without a doubt its original to this truck, as those bolts were NEVER off that truck before I restored it!
what do you all think of these and how it looks?
does anyone reading this have these pates on their trucks?

Re: New 1/2 ton Dodge WC-12 project
I had the same dilemma and had the holes and nuts in the stake pocket. The repro tailgate I got with the truck would not fit the reflectors so that was another point in that direction. I agree they are a bit impractical in that they do stick out. But those marble reflectors are a thing of beauty and anything that sets them off, I'm all for!
