Re: New 1/2 ton Dodge WC-12 project
et all:
R6T: I seen your rebuild/resto site somewhere once and haven't found it since.. was it a link to face book maybe? I am not a face book subscriber so maybe I was limited on photos I could view? in any case, please post a link to your resto site? I am sure we would all love to see it! and thanks for the kind words. My bed wood started out looking like yours but as a few of the planks dried further, one warped a bit creating a bigger gap on one side. the others, well, they just shrunk more than I anticipated. so I now have to replace two of the boards to get the gaps tighter again! all in fun!
JOE: thanks.. like I posted on the other site, send me some pics of "salad" when you can! you have been helpful with advice to me as well in the past. good luck on the cab removal..
PVT PARTS: ya know, I lokked at that font and thought about it.. in the end, I liked this one that's more "curvy"? and looks very very close to an old hood David had lying around. still I think both types look good and either would work.. matter or preference I guess.
and last but not least, ZEPH: as always, you have posted nothing but great comments and I thank you.. I haven't been following your tread as of late, but the last time I checked you sure were moving along yourself! the engine looks super. glad you went with the grey too I guess I like the grey over the silver.!
as far as the tailgate, I bought mine from VPW... I am pretty sure they all carry the same re-pop parts, but I went with them because I was ordering other parts anyway. price was 325 at VPW. I know I seen it cheaper at other places, but like I said, I was ordering other stuff anyway.

he sells them for 312
I seen them as high as 350 at DC of Michigan..
https://dcmclassics.com/bed-parts/28-bp ... lgate.html
to me they all look to be the same part.
My restoration is coming up to the one year since its arrival to me.. that date was June 19th.. less than one year later I got me a driver..a full blown tear down and build up in one year...not sure if this is my fastest restoration yet, but it went rather quick....I am currently working on basic wiring (that is, tail and stop lights, headlights only) to make it road safe...last night got the basics working.. yippee... now I gotta take the time and get some good photos for the insurance company and get on down to the DMV and get this thing leagal and out on the road!

Re: New 1/2 ton Dodge WC-12 project
UPDATE 10-14-16
Well I am now at the OK cabin full time, and the truck has been delivered to me oh about 3 weeks or so ago. Its still not insured or registered for the road, as I am still "Debugging" it a tad. so I drive it on the back roads around the place.
Decided to snap a shot yesterday up on the hill.
notice I put on the unit markings for the 801 engineering avaition battalion, the unit my Dad served with during the Korean conflict. He served during 49-53 years, and part of that time was in England, repairing WW2 runways left since ww2.. the runways were for aircraft going to and from Korea back to the states. His unit was one of the first back in England after the war.
Anyway, I never seerched all that much about his unit, just assuming it a Korean war era unit, not thinking the markings were correct for a ww2 truck. BUT... I learned that the 801 E WAS in fact a unit activated in ww2. so I guess it not only is correct (to a degree I guess) I still get to honor his service

Well well well. Welcome back Dave. The truck really looks great. A little more fine tuning as you say, and it'll be ready to protect the country once again. lol It's also nice to see you honoring you dad's service with his unit markings whether correct or not. Say hi and thank pop for me. Keep up the good work.

Re: New 1/2 ton Dodge WC-12 project
hey Bob... will do! In fact I called him this week, was his birthday on the 11th. I dont usually talk much to him when I call home as he is getting pretty deaf, but I did get a discussion going on his service.
As stated, he was with the 801E but I didnt know he was in "C" company.. so I was able to finish the bumper markings on the right with "C" 16 (C company, 16th truck I just chose 16 as its this year )
He was stationed in Molesworth, England.
yea still more tweeking required. But I did get it insured yesterday thru Hagerty so next step is going to DMV!

Super looking vehicle and I love the markings. Congrats to you and your father. Nice to still have him around I'll bet. I look forward to more posts and some "on the road" vids.

Re: New 1/2 ton Dodge WC-12 project
Dave, that is a beautiful truck, you have done a great job. But your post about Molesworth caught my eye. My dad was a machinist in the Army Air Force, 8th Air Force, 303rd Bomb Group, and was also stationed at Molesworth from 1942-45. Molesworth was a B17 base, and home to the famous "Hells Angels" B17. Hell's Angels was the first bomber to complete 50 missions and was sent back to the states on a war bond tour. Before it left everyone on the base signed their names on the aircraft. My dad found out before many of the others and his name, "E. Lakaszcyck, Haverhill Mass" is very prominent on the nose.

Dave,
Could you please post some pics of the inside details of the hood hinge and the attachment points. Mine is completely different and bubbasized

Re: New 1/2 ton Dodge WC-12 project
Thanks on both accounts. The tear down went quicker than I thought. These WC12s are quite simple. I'll be able to make a better time estimate when I get into engine and tranny. The body work will perhaps take me a while. Never done any of that before. You project went really fast. Don't know if I can keep up with your schedule.wc56daveyboy wrote:Hey oz. ya early here just woke up. I'll get pics later.

BTW, what type of round speedo face are you looking for, inner round beveled or outer face, is it for the early civilian gauge type?

Dave,
Your project is looking great, and nearly done in a year...wow! I hope you enjoy driving around in your "new" time machine.
