Re: New 1/2 ton Dodge WC-12 project
Thanks for the input guys. Yea they do stick out on those brackets!! Catches your eye that's for sure !!
Curious Phil: your tailgate wouldn't fit them? Strange? No? Like I said I COULD drill holes in my tailgate to mount them, but heck if this is correct for this truck maybe I'll
Leave them be.....for now anyway.
And oz: what's up with your progress? Not a lot of posts lately? Holidays? Cold weather, like me? Anxious to see the next phase if your work. Your doing great. And I love the second truck u bought from
Tractor in CA. It's looks like a great next project. Give us some pictures to drool over!!

The plate mounted reflectors may not be practical, but they would have been visible even if the tailgate is down.

Re: New 1/2 ton Dodge WC-12 project
Good point! Tailgate down or even missing!! I'll bet ya at some point in a truck military use the soldiers seen fit to remove the tailgate for easier in-out access to the truck. It's a Guess of course. Never seen a pic of that done. But there is a photo on the net of a machine gun crew jumping out of the back of an open cab 1/2 ton and they are jumping off of the bed sides. Now in my old age jumping from that height would no doubt hurt, with my L4 -L5 compressed vertebrae /disk letting me know PAINFULLY once I hit the ground! now with a tailgate removed it sure would have made the distance to the ground less painful, especially when the crew had the tripod and 30 cal additional weight added to the impact!!
I found the pic.... added here... tailgate removed sure would have made the jump easier, no?
looks like the soldier handling the tripod let it get away from him, no? or it was being thrown out?
BTW. Nice rear shot of a 1/2 ton showing those reflector brackets.

Well well Dave...the mounting of the rear reflectors certainly is different... You don't see reflectors mounted this way very often, if ever. Do I like them...undecided! and you know me, I go for the unusual. To me there are more cons than pros. My main concern would be that they might obstruct light from reflecting off the side reflectors at various angles. I myself like the tailgate mounting. At any rate, nice job as usual.

Re: New 1/2 ton Dodge WC-12 project
My compressor went down. The head gasket blew. It was under warranty so they sent me another. It blew again after about 50psi in the tank. I suspected a warped head. The factory ordered me a new motor for the compressor. After 10 days it did not arrive and they said they could not track it down. So they sent me a new one. Within 7 days two compressor motors showed up. I hope to begin starting the blasting of the rear axle and getting that finished and mounted.wc56daveyboy wrote:

I think the guy who is holding the front of that tripod is completely cut out of the image. He did a front somersault with 1/2 gainer and is just above the upper crop Must be a fine former Olympian diver!

recreating a drive in the woods around Bastogne.
we got a few inches of snow thru the night. Still snowing... and its pretty cold, at least for these here parts (About 16 degrees)
Decided to take the WC for a joy ride and see how she does in the snow.
as my place is in the middle of nowhere, on dirt roads, I had a solid gravel base, so no issues with sliding. the hills around me, some of them anyway, can be steep, but the truck didnt spin or loose traction.
it was fun making the first tracks in the snow, on all the roads around my place... guess no one else wanted to go out on patrol today
enjoy

Looks simply awesome. I am hoping mine transforms into a similar image, but I have a long way to go on No 2. Not quite Bastogne, but Roswell ETO

Re: New 1/2 ton Dodge WC-12 project
Thanks oz... On yer way to a legal title for it.. Great!!
When I bought mine out of Alabama, with no title I thought I would have big problems. But alas was no issue, as the DMV person I happened to get next in line new full well Alabama had no title issued to vehicles this old. Bill of sale was enough to get me a TX title. I had a lot of backup document too, though, with bill of sales from past owners, even the previous CAL title from the owner before the guy I bought it from. So I had lots of documented proof of ownership going back almost 30 years.
Hope your DMV experience went well.
You'll be on patrol around NM before ya know it

Nice WC Daveyboy!! I don't know where you found the energy at your age, but that truck sure did come out nice. Are you just about finished? It sure seems so other than a few minor finishing touches. The pioneer tool rack looks way better than I anticipated. Nice. Love the dirty tires too.

Re: New 1/2 ton Dodge WC-12 project
Nice pic's there Daveyboy. Are you running the 1/2 ton Wheels with 900-16 tires ? If so, is the spare also a 900-16? I see you have the pioneer tool rack set up vertically behind the left side of the cab, I like that. I have a pic from a newsweek magazine dated sometime in 1941 and it shows a WC closed cab with the kit mounted in the same place. IMHO that is where it should be placed if you are going to install one. Seems to me it you install it horizontally on the back of the tailgate, it puts a lot of added weight and strain on the tailgate hinges.

Re: New 1/2 ton Dodge WC-12 project
Well thanks to you both on the comments!!
Yes I am running 9:00-16 NDT,s and yes on m37(or pw rims)
I noticed one tire /wheel combo had a narrower ring so it's probably one of the original 1/2 ton rims. Don't know.
As far as pioneer tool rack, I put mine there because of original pics I had seen too. In fact that pic of the machine gun crew exiting their open cab has a pioneer rack on the left side too. I ain't never seen a closed cab with the rack as mine was.
Could u post a copy of the pic of the closed cab with the rack like mine on it?
I really didn't put mine on the tailgate because I really didn't want to drill holes in my new tailgate!!

Hi Daveyboy,
I'll have to go through my books and check for the pic. Years ago a library was throwing away a lot of these magazines that had been bound together like books with a hardcover for use in the reference section of the library. I picked up most of the Colliers, Sat. Evening post and a few Newsweek ones - all covering the war years 1941-1945. I got them for the Wartime era adds. Say, did you get the pic's of my truck I sent you a while back.

Yes it's Joe. Give me a little time to find that Pic for you. I'm not good at posting pic's on forums. When I find it I'll e-mail it to you. Say, if you can, would you mind posting the pic's I sent you of my truck here on this forum. I know it's not olive-drab, but it would be nice to see what this forum has to say about it, pro or con. Thanks.
