How on earth did you find a NOS 5 speed? Great score?
Haha... It was a surprise for me as well. I got in touch with a guy who is crazy about military trucks; his property is filled with old trucks, about 10 of them. And he has a big pile of parts too. In this pile he said to have about 10 Chevy/GMC transmissions, so I went there to check it out. I could pick the one I wanted. When we opened the top of this one, the shine of the silver cogs almost blinded me ( ). It was still oiled! He told me that he bought all the stock of an old junk yard that was closing business, and this junk yard had bought those transmissions at an Army auction some 50 years ago. So, it came from the Brazilian Army surplus straight to my truck never used in 70 years! Talk about luck.

Hello Julio,

You have done a fantastic job with all your hard work on your beautiful truck !!!!
You have preserved a great piece of your country's WW2 Heritage ,
it honors of the Brazilian Troops who fought German Forces during the World War 2 !!
I hope you can find some WW2 Veterans in your country to share with them, your and their, Vehicle of Victory :D :D :D :D

Do they teach WW2 history to the kids in Brazil, I hope they do, it is pretty poorly taught in US schools , in my opinion .
You can teach them with your truck for sure :D

We all try to do our part in preserving and remembering the sacrifices that the Veterans made for us all !

Best Regards,

Ray
USA
Thanks Ray!

Some of our vets have already seen it and appreciated a lot! Unfortunately I have none left in my city to take for a ride.

Yes, WW2 is a main topic at our schools, but also poorly taught. Kids basically learn the politics 101 of it, nothing more. Same goes for the participation of our troops. So that's where me and my friends get in. My plan is to begin a mobile exposition of WW2 material and Brazilian Expeditionary Force history with the truck, visiting schools for that matter. Also, I think kids will love a ride.

Julio, here is the weakest link in the Jimmy 5-speed. I purchased 2 of these trans.'s a long time ago, both were badly damaged internally. With one of them, 3rd., 4th. and 5th. gears would not stay engaged during acceleration or deceleration. The other wouldn't stay in 4th. or 5th. gears under the same conditions. I just had not learned about them yet, and who ever had them before me obviously couldn't double-clutch properly. Having the trans. mated with the Chevy transfer case, you must give the engine an additional rev-up while double clutching to get the trans. to spin just a bit faster before attempting to engage 5th. gear. This is due to the fact that the Chevy T-case gear ratio in high range is about 1 to 1. The Jimmy T-case is somewhere around 0.83 to 1, making 5th. gear perform in a 1 to 1 ratio.
I found the pictured hub gear on Ebay being offered by B.V. Willenberg in the Netherlands. I think I paid $65.00 U.S.D. each plus shipping. The 5 speed trans. in my Chevy was in excellent condition when it was initially purchased, but I still like have some back-up parts on hand just in case.

Here is the Hub gear that engages 4th. and 5th. gears on the main input shaft, and the weakest link.

WARNER GEAR DIV. T-93......... !!! What a find Julio, great job. Your truck looks very nice, I know you're just gonna love that 5-speed. On flat ground and in 5th. gear, you're gonna buzz past everyone like they're standing still. You are always going to be looking for long, flat and straight highways just so you can get your truck back into 5th. :) ...........
