Hehehe :D :D I thought it was better not to spare any rusting. This one deserves a safe life from now on. On Monday, it goes for repairs and then painting.

PS: I tried the instrument gauges I bought, just to check the fit. Perfect!

Merry Christmas!

Julio,

Your making rapid progress. You are going to remove the dashboard and door panels aren't you? There is a lot of rust lurking behind those parts that your sand blaster needs to reach, most notably the lower door skins and cowl vent. It also looks as though you have found some more wheels.

Yes Paul, I've found the three extra wheels I needed. I did removed the door panels and the dashboard. Smaller details are going to be done next week. I'm so excited right now, eager to see it assembled again.

Wow, that's impressive!

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned it, but I do note that in your photo of the blasted cab interior, there is a dash light centered over the instrument panel. That indicates that your truck should have the military instrument panel, since the civilian model does not have that.

So again, you are on the right track!

That's great news! Indeed, I hadn't noticed that detail before! That opens a new mistery door: would my truck received a civilian panel in exchange of its original military one? Has anyone seen something like it before?

Hi Phillip,

Here are some photos of the parts you mentioned. Hope to hear your thoughts about it.

PS: as you can see in the last photo, I found D 8 2 at the transfer case. April 8, 1942 right? Can we date my truck around that day?

Julio,

Yes the D 8 2 translates to April 8, 1942. It helps to determine a date, but is not conclusive. The transmission has two similar casting dates, one is located on the drivers side, and the other on the top cover near the back. Your shock absorbers also have a date struck on one of the piston caps. If all of the numbers are close in date, it is probable that they are original to the truck and will help in determining the date of manufacture.

Your transmission looks correct, but the transfer case levers are not...they are possibly from a G508.

Julio;
Your driveshaft from the transmission to transfer case should be put on the other way, the sliding yoke always goes towards the end providing the "power.
Someone fabricated the CCKW levers to work on your transmission.

Paul, that helped a lot. I'm gonna check these numbers on the transmission and shock absorbers!

Julio

I'm not sure that your transmission is right because I don't see the reverse lever. It's a small little lever on the transmission shifter that you would pull up on to shift in to reverse. The transfer case and parking brake shifters are not chevy. I like the boot on the transmission shifter someone was making an effort to stop water from getting in the transmission. Your driveshaft being in backwards won't hurt anything but rule of thumb on driveshafts is slip side to the power side. My 84 chevy blazer I had both driveshafts were backwards because they had CV joints at the transfer case.

Paul is correct on your date code and the locations of more codes and if you look on the intake and exhaust manifolds they have a date code if they are original. But to see them they need to be removed to see them just like the code behind the starter

Keep up the good work

Thanks Phillip!

Today, I went to look further on the transmission and shock absorbers, and found markings on them.

-Transmission: L 2 2 (December 2, 1942). My engine is marked L 1 2 (December 1, 1942). Pretty close huh?

-Shock Absorbers: Marked 4 B 2 (February 4, 1942?? - could the month and day be inverted?). Also, they say "Delco - Made in Dayton".

Here are the photos, hope to hear what you guys think:
