I saw repo grills the other day for $290.... in chrome... which I guess you'd have to paint over ;)

They are available in paint. Just scan ebay under 1946-7 Ford truck. I remember seeing them in some of my quests

Friend,

You can find parts pretty easily for these trucks. Try MACS AUTOS, Dennis Carpenter, Bob Drake, Kanter Auto, and Joblot out of Brooklyn for engine parts. What type engine d you have, 'G' Series or 'H'?

Mine is the earlier G series with the exhaust manifold that shoots out toward the back of the block.

Saw a slightly older model at Chino airshow this past weekend. No sign of the owner so couldn't ask any questions:

Obviously restored at some point, yet the owner left the fenders full of dents for some reason...The other side was worse.

Bed etc was totally different to mine:

Thats a German truck, rebuilt from a US one for re-enactments. Germany had lotsa Ford trucks made in their plant in Berlin that was Never bombed. The only difference was that real German ones still had the flat windshield.

Isn't there a truck like these used in the opening credits of Hogans Heroes?

I know about the German Ford connection, I liked the *V8* embossed in the hood sheet metal :)

A few minutes in the media cabinet... As you can see it has a brown tinge to the aluminum. I can make that disapear & make the metal look a lot *whiter* by soda blasting the carb body... but I'm out of soda until I go shopping again.

Before you go too far, check out this link:http://g503.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=142138

If you scroll down, you'll see shots of NOS Carter carbs. Note the off-yellow color of the top. That's not to say your Ford had the same tint, but you might want to look into it before you remove what might be or might not be an original base color.

BTW, great truck.

That looks like Cad #2, or possibly anodizing, on that Carter. The yellowy tinge on mine is just left over from the oil/grease/dirt. :)

Carbs are not anodized

They use alodine

And you can do it yourself just need some Alumiprep (Acid) and Gold alodine

You can get it at most auto paint stores

There are not a lot of places that do the Cad plating on the steel parts anymore an EPA thing

They use Zinc now

I have a qt of alodine someplace in the garage :) I've been using one place in the SFV for cad plating for the past 20 years. if it's only a few parts they don't charge me. Looks like the lugnuts on the wheels originally had some sort of silver colored plating on them, not sure if it's cad or zinc. Won't matter as they will be OD anyway :)
