Todays first discovery:
http://70.86.163.186/gallery/6751

Another rather bizarre discovery today. I was faffing about under the hood & pulled the dipstick to see *how bad* things were...

Found a perfect dipstick with no rust & oddly newish looking oil on it....

Pulled this off:

Original is still on the frame rail:

Now I can see the engine :) Dropped in a set of plugs to keep any more dirt out. They're from a 460 but appear to be identical to the original H8's.

Image

& I found a stick the perfect length to hold the hood up :)

Is the bed on the G8T the same as the G506 chevy?

No, the bed is different than the G506. The G8 bed is a standard flatbed with removable stake sideboards. Probably the same bed from the late 1930's to up in the 1960's

Friend,

I had most of the original bed on mine and I got some great pics of the data plates that the military had on it. You won't find them in any ebay listing or repro shop! I posted some 800+ pics on flickr. Here's the link.

Mine has 4 plates riveted to the dash. One shows the shift pattern, one for the fuel selector, one has the date of build/delivery/serial # etc & the other shows speeds in the gears.

Hit the dash with the lemon pledge & a duster, result:

Is that a starter button to the right of the gas pedal?

No, the starter is on the dash. That's actually a foot rest. It's adjustable and can be moved to the right.

Rick,

I have the data plates from inside the cab. What I'm talking about however are the ones that were on the original bed. The bed was 122" long, which made it atypical among stake body trucks of the time. And the military added data plates just to the bed. Did yours come with any?

I'm busy this weekend, Chino Airshow :)

Besides, i don't think you're in my neighborhood....

Where *exactly* on the frame rails can I find the VIN etc? I need to know where to *dig* :)

Haven't seen any data plates on the bed so far, but half of it is rotted off anyway.....
