WTB Need G506 gas tank and straps. Under bed cargo.

Post by signsup » Mon Dec 18, 2017 11:51 am

Been reading about replacement tanks and it looks like no one is making a reop tank and I'm not sure I want to put a boat poly tank in. So, if anyone has one or a lead on one, I need a under the bed caro tank and straps, there is nothing there right now. I do have the filler neck tube that goes between the bed and the cab and cap, but nothing to connect it to.

Would need it shipped to Atlanta, GA. I'm not doing a museum truck, so if a CCKW tank would work or fit or some other option other than the marine tank, I'm willing to try.

Thanks in advance.

Could probably ship Greyhound or Fastenal. Particularly fastenal, since they ship by truck. Would need to be strapped to a pallet.

Wow! That Fastnall program sure has changed. I remember when it was $60 a pallet, regardless of weight. Now, a third party is running it, they want photos of the item, you have to go to the store and prepay for it and they create the bill of lading, they won't insure anything that is not in a box or crate and no time frame commitments. And, an empty gas tank is $165 to ship. I'm checking some other options including Greyhound, but this opened my eyes that this program is not the best thing since sliced bread program it used to be.

They are charging us for the weight of the pallet that they are requiring we attach it to. That's 1/3 of the total weight for something that I will turn into firewood upon arrival.

I understand that $165 is a lot more thsn $60; but to ship something that large from coast to coast, I will be surprised if you find it cheaper. Good luck!!

Greyhound from Corvalas, OR to Marietta, GA is $105 for the 50 lb box. A little drive for each of us on each end to deliver and pick up and a 10 day window for delivery, but I'm in no hurry. Needs to be boxed up vs. strapped to a pallet for Fastnall, but that seems like a push to me if I were the shipper. It's putting a hardship on the forum member that has been gracious enough to work with me so far on this tank, but I'd rather take care of him than a freight company.

UPS Ground was $205 after an $11 discount, Fastnal was $165, pallet and no insurance, and Greyhound is $105 for $200 insurance and box it up.

Just providing the info for others who may have to make a similar decision in the future.

No straps or bracket yet. The truck I acquired had no tank on the frame or under the seat. A rubber hose running from the fuel pump by Bubba. So, I'm starting from sratch in the fuel department. It did come with the filler tube and cap, though. I'm not looking for charity, so if you have something I need, I'll take care of you.

Laid my hands on the G506 this afternoon. Nothing between the frame rails from left to right and does not appear to be any bracket between the rear of the cab and a crossmember that it riveted to the frame rails that runds from side to side just a little forward of the rear axle. I feel holes for the spare tire mount, but don't think I have the gas tank bracket. A little torn remnant of a thin metal strap on the crossmember that may be a wire clip or brake or electrical line clip.

So I'm working on getting tank to GA, but still need the bracket and straps if anyone is doing any spring cleaning.

Robert,

I think I have the mid g506 years style fuel tank brackets/straps that you need. Let me know if the other avenues don't work out.

I have no straps. I found these two pieces in the bed that may or may not be the gas tank brackets. The longer piece had a small clip of thin gauge steel on it that just came off in my hand. I presume it was a remnant of a tank strap. Are these two parts what I need to attach the straps and the tank to the frame?

The service manual did not show photos and the parts manual I have do not show these parts.

But this , and a tank is what I have. I need the rest. I have the filler neck and cap as well. Please let me know what I need and a source for them.
Thank you in advance.
