Minor correction needed in the database.
M16A2 294387: 40172313 should read 40172314

Hi,
is there any correlation between the chassis number and the number stamped on the drivers side angled piece of armour?

And the serial number / ORD number on the plate on an IHC gearbox?

Thanks

Marty

Pics would help and what the numbers are might help to determine their intent.

Hello Marty,
Your gearbox tag is common to the gear box and as far as I know has no correlation with any numbers pertaining to the vehicle. Your IH# could be the vehicle ord number. Which piece of armor is it stamped in to? Is there a number stamped in your frame?

Hi Kevin,
the IH number is stamped on the small 45 dregree diagonal strip of armour, drivers side, that runs between the side armour up to the slightly angled rear armour.

I was shown this on another HT in Holland recently by one of the chaps at BAIV who mentioned it had something to do with the vehicles number and not a part number.

Where I would expect a chassis number to be stamped have been badly corroded with salt water as my HT was used to ferry beach defences about in the '90's. I can find no trace unless it could be stamped elsewhere?

Thanks for the reponse.

Marty

Marty,
Sorry to hear that the frame number is missing. PERHAPS another IHC owner or your contact at BAIV could report the stamped number from a IHC track with a confirmed data plate and/or frame number. If you look at pg1 of this thread there is a group of IHC tracks listed. The is a apparent mathematical connection between the ordnance number and the vehicle serial number.
By the way what model of IHC do you own?
Kevin

White M2 serial #277392, ord # 18230 now located in Tennessee. Was not upgraded to m2a1, no hood number. Will have a m15a1 and m16 to list soon also. Thank you.

My brother and I just acquired two half-tracks in various conditions. I posted over at haltrackinfo and someone suggested I post this info here for the database. One HT is a White, with the serial number of 230202. And the other is an Autocar with the serial of M2-13. Both are in Texas and both, I believe, are M2's based on their serial numbers. Unfortunately there is no other info available as neither one had a data plate.

Corey,
Thanks for the info I have added it to our list. Congrats on owning the oldest Autocar M2! serial# M2-13 we have found so far. Your hood number would have been 4010211. Without the data plate I cannot help on your 230202 White M2 as we would need the ordnance number from the data plate.
