Re: G503 Halftrack Database
After looking through Mr. Doyle's halftrack book, part 2 appendices, I used the hood number of the T-30, 4042526, and estimated the serial number at #336 using the registration chart and serial numbers assuming sequential assignment. Does this sound correct? Thank you.

Great meeting you and your folks Andrew. Can't wait to see your progress pics when you start on it.
Here is the original thread I found on your T30 with some pics of it in Oklahoma. It probably came out of Ft. Sill

Re: G503 Halftrack Database
Andrew and Clint,
Glad you guys have helped save this track. I am not sure there is enough info to even guess at the ordnance number assigned to the T30. I will look through some of my notes. The list here on the G has no other T30s with a ord number. I think around 500 total planned and 100 plus converted to M3A1. Perhaps if Joe D. is reading he may be able to add some info on the P.O.s. I have no reason to doubt the hood number.
If your needing parts look me up.

Hi Andrew,
> I used the hood number of the T-30, 4042526, and estimated the serial number at #336 using the registration chart and serial numbers assuming sequential assignment. Does this sound correct?
Yes, indeed.
According to what David dug up in an official Ord. doc, the Serial & Registration Number Range given for the final T30 Production Order was for 80 units, assigned SN 315 / USA 4042505 thru SN 394 / USA 4042584.
The fact that you found a USA Number within this range is extremely helpful, as it suggests that the range is valid, which is not always the case.
I would say 4042526 was accepted in November, 1942.
According to the Summary Report of Acceptances, 500 T30s were made, with the last 188 units accepted in November, 1942.
In the absence of any documentation, just guessing that only 80 serial & reg numbers were assigned because 108 units were set aside to be converted by White to M3 Half Tracks in 1943.
If you ever find anything that indicates that the serial number is 336, would you let us know?
Joe

Re: G503 Halftrack Database
Joe
Couple questions.
T30 do you have a PO # for the 188? T3844 for 108 units is on my PO list at the top of this thread.
M4 I have recently bought a manual for the M4 published by White. Originally printed in Jun 41 and has revision pages thru May 42. The cover states.
" Carrier 81mm Mortar Half Track M4 built for U.S.Army Contract W741 Ord. 6285 U.S.A. Reg #s 4015366 thru 4015497, 4015499, 4015506, 4015507, 4015509, 4015514, 4015522, 4015525."
Seems odd that the manual specifies just a few 30 or so vehicles. Your thoughts?

Re: G503 Halftrack Database
Hi Kevin,
According to the Summary Report of Acceptances (SRA) of Dec. 1945, 188 T30s were accepted on P.O. T-3967.
Monthly production figures provided by Richard Hunnicutt & Dave Haugh have it that the last 188 units were accepted in Nov. 1942, & I am assuming these would all have been part of PO T-3967.
>T3844 for 108 units is on my PO list at the top of this thread.
PO T-3844 is listed in the SRA as 108 M3s "converted from Carriage, Motor, 75mm Howitzer, T30" by White in 1943.
These 108 appear to have been counted as new M3s in the official totals.
Just a guess that they were originally accepted as T30s in November 1942, but not armed and/or armored, and were only assigned serial & reg numbers when converted to M3.
FWIW, the SRA also lists 53 new M3s built on P-O T-3844.
Combining the T30 conversions with the new ones adds up to161 M3s.
One doc has it that these 161 were assigned SN 18778 / USA 4037266 thru 18938 / USA 4037426.
I can confirm that some USA Numbers listed in historic docs such as Unit rosters, fall within that range.
Don't have confirmation of any Serial Numbers within that range...
>"Carrier 81mm Mortar Half Track M4 built for U.S.Army Contract W741 Ord. 6285 U.S.A. Reg #s 4015366 thru 4015497, 4015499, 4015506, 4015507, 4015509, 4015514, 4015522, 4015525."
>Seems odd that the manual specifies just a few 30 or so vehicles. Your thoughts?
You said the manual is dated June 1941.
Would guess at that early time the gov't had only placed one Production Order for a small number of M4s.
In fact, this was the first M4 Production Order, and it was T-540, the same as the first White M2 PO.
Basically we have 132 units assigned SN 1 / USA 4015366 thru SN 132 / USA 4015497, and then we are thrown a little curveball, consisting of a few outliers with non consecutive USA Numbers.
I try to record data from posts on G503, but don't believe you or anyone else has reported one of these M4s within the range given that has a known good serial & registration number together.
So, at present, it's not possible to confirm if it's accurate...
HTH,
Joe

Re: G503 Halftrack Database
Just thought I'd share some updated info/progress on one of the halftracks listed in the database- My White M16 MGMC, serial number 294619 and registration number 4050512. She was purchased from her previous owner at the beginning of the summer, traveling from her old home in downstate NY to upstate NY, and has been undergoing a shakedown and restoration ever since. We are nearing completion of the halftrack itself, and soon to begin restoring the M45 Quad mount! Here's some pics, from start to finish! (Unfortunately its giving me grief! Sorry only one picture for now )

Re: G503 Halftrack Database
Logan,
Thanks for the addition. The ord# seems way low for this serial number. Can you post info from data plate if available? Was this a M2 or M2A1.
Matt,
Thanks for the update on 294619. Any chance you have the data plate. We are lacking any data plate info on these very last M16s. Not sure the hood number fits the database so do you have any stampings etc. that could assist in confirming these numbers.
Thanks

Gary,
Thanks for the post. I have added it to the list. I would say if you are sure of your ord #2022 than you can assign hood number 4012220 to her.
If you need parts sounds like were close. I am in Great Bend, Ks.

Kevin that was taken off a data tag but when I checked the frame stamp it was 230618
So when they stamped the rebuild tag they did not get it correctly. Must have been a Monday morning?
The halftrack is a m2 converted to. A1 by ordance Dept roller

Kevin,
Unfortunately she never came with the data plate , however the previous owner said that he had recovered the hood numbers when he originally restored her 20+ years ago.. but yes those hood numbers do not match up so I have no idea, haha. I had to put them down again on the restored vehicle because she needs to be ready for this spring, butI do know there are no other ordnance stampings on her other than the frame serial #. We also know she was never converted post war, because the construction company that owned her surplus kept the rear armor frame on, just removing the actual armor, plus there is no cut in the floor under the quad, and no ordnance rebuild stamp.. She confuses me sometimes! Haha thanks again Kevin!
