I don't think this bearing is original
There was no gasket between the cases, just rtv. you can see where it was leaking in the upper left corner.

Re: M2A1 Progress
I removed the gears from the case. I will further break it down this weekend and put a parts list together.

Re: M2A1 Progress
I cleaned up the case and found a crack going along the bottom
The 3-4 clutch gear seems to have been put in backwards . The TM says the flat side faces up, so that's how I will install it. It was put in beveled side up. If anyone has been in their trans and can confirm this that would be great.

Re: M2A1 Progress
Some parts arrived from Gary to make up a new transmission .
I worked on the countershaft gear set today and here's a couple of more issues that I found. The shaft bearing surface is shot.
Besides putting the 3-4 clutch gear in backwards it looks like bubba took any old washer of the shelf to put behind the countershaft bearing. I don't think it did anything besides bounce around in there a bit. Old and new.
Here's the countershaft gear set assembled. The front bearing surface looks a little better.

Re: M2A1 Progress
Working on some unfinished projects in between the transmission/transfer case. I gave up trying to get the hydraulic cylinder on the original hydrovac fixed. The best answer I got on was it should be ok for slow, parade use. I didn't like that so I roughed in a modern one.

Re: M2A1 Progress
The transmission is done.
It took me a while to find a snap ring that would work to hold 3rd gear in place. The one on the lower left is the one that was in there, it was bouncing around on the shaft. A regular snap ring would have fit but I wanted to stay with a constant section ring. Most were close but they just would not fit correctly. A friend found one at a Peterbuilt dealer.
Now onto the transfer case. Here are the internals.

Re: M2A1 Progress
The transfer case is mostly together.
I had a small problem while I was setting the end play in the intermediate shaft. The front bearing cup was pushing out of the case. I will make a fixture to hold it in place and get or make some more shims.
The front bearing is shown.

Re: M2A1 Progress
The transmission shift mechanism came apart today. I found a couple of broken springs for the poppet balls and a loose shift fork bolt, the safety wire held it in place.

Jumping around a bit. I repaired some hood hinges and installed the hydrovac.

Great progress Gary, every little project gets you closer. Like they say the only way to eat an elephant is one bit at a time. Keep the pictures coming

Re: M2A1 Progress
The transmission is now in place.
I have the doors primed/painted and installed. I am still looking for a passenger upper door, if anyone has one or some leads let me know. Thanks
I also have the hood mounted, now the cab is starting to come together.

That's the same vacuum booster as used in V100s.

It is really looking great. I like the way you did the brake booster. I think I would like to do mine the same. Can you tell me where I can get that or a part number for it.Thanks,Gary
