halftrack front axle seals
I am taking apart a front axle for my halftrack and would like to replace the inner axle shaft seals. I am having trouble locating the part in the ORD 9. The part # that they show in TM9-1710A seems to be the grease seal for the drum and I do have a pair of those. Let me know if you have any info on those inner seals.
Thanks Gary
Thanks Gary

Re: halftrack front axle seals
Steve,
Thanks for the info, I will sometimes look for seal numbers and see if I can find a modern seal to replace the older ones. Come to find out I just had to look a little further down the page to find the part# , it is listed as a retainer and not a seal. I'm sure I'll be calling Gary to get some parts to freshen up the axle.

Gary,
Very nice. Looks like you got your self a puzzle to put back together. I think I might tackle this in a few years. Keep up the good work!

Re: halftrack front axle seals
Gary,
After helping Don with his front drums and brakes I had wondered about how the front knuckle was lubricated. I also wondered where the heck the inner seals are located. Thanks to your photo of the split housing I located the inner seals just behind the races, hope you changed the seals while it was apart. Knowing that I wondered how the CV joint was lubed in the knuckle. Looking at the lube order chart in the manual I found that there are two plugs on the inner knuckle and when removed grease is pumped into it. Mystery solved!
Thanks

Re: halftrack front axle seals
Steve,
I replaced the seals, although the ones that were in there didn't seem all that bad. I have finished the front leaf springs and put them in the frame. I hope to do the same with the axle over the next couple of weeks.

Re: halftrack front axle seals
Which TM has this process? I am about to do this and I don't see it in TM 9-710 and I know it won't be in the Ord9.
Thanks
