My M2A1 "Die Hard" Halftrack

Post by Viking27 » Sun Jun 13, 2010 7:05 am

Hello guys,

Finally put some work into my halftracks. I named my 1941 White "Die hard" because it always starts straigth away.
The 1943 Autocar halftrack was given the name "Rusty" for obvious reasons...

Been busy stripping "Rusty" to use the floor in the "Die Hard" restoration. The window had been raised on "Die hard"
2-3 inch, which I cut off. Work is in progress. Had a good sumers day to work outside.

The window had been raised 3-4 inch, so that had to be cut out to repair:

I plan to re weld the window sections together, using the original front section
of perimeter rail from "Rusty" for guidance / jig purpose:

Diamonds in the rough. Great photos. Have fun with the restorations.

TopKick,

Thanks, I am having fun doing it, except a bit boring not being able to order parts and getting them
shipped overnight with UPS without the extra cost and hasle of the Icelandic Gestapo customs. 40-50%
added on top of the part and shipping price = leagalized robbery.

I changed the photos a bit for better viewing.

Guys,

Clint´s thread has been so much help to me, that I figured I would post more of my restoration to help
others. Here is the rewelded window frame:

Rear floor fabrication:

I used the original vertical track armor plates from "Rusty" Still need to weld in repairs on them though..

The horizontal armor plates on Rusty were too far gone to be useble, just used them to measure out the holes.
I had the 4 plates cut in a workshop that has an industrial watercutting machine. 49 X 16 inch.
