A few years ago I made a run of replica G519 bicycle grips that I made from an original NOS set. They sold very quick! I didn't make a huge batch as there wasn't a large interest. I do have some left over that the color is wrong, but they could be easily painted olive green or another color for wartime civilian bikes. $20 for a pair plus $5 shipping and PP fees.

Grips will possibly need to be slightly sanded on the inside to fit on bars with lots of paint (easily done with a dowel rod, sand paper and a drill). Sand blast to etch them so you can paint them green or civilian colors.

What was the material on the original grip?

My intention is to use the best of the 2 grips I purchased and restore the mold marks and pull a new mold and cast out of a 90 durometer elastomer.

But being that I have no experience seeing an original grip. I have no frame of reference.

When I was younger, I worked at a polyurethane casting manufacturer. I have cast all kinds of parts for automobiles, models, works of art. But never a bicycle. about 15 years ago I offered GPW sparkplug rain shields. Cast from NOS originals borrowed from a gentleman in Italy. Casting brown with a splash of red to match the original color was easy. Matching OD will be a challenge. especially since elastomer tends to have a transparent quality when it goes solid.

But first I need to get my bicycle put back together.

You can paint these hard cast grips with anything. just sand them down a but for some tooth and paint.

How to make yourself crazy making G519 bicycle grips:

I have an original G519 Columbia, G519 Huffman, F-92L Columbia and a G519 Clone I'm building just to ride. Grips...ugggg. Made of expensive unobtainium. I bit the bullet, paid the big money and bought a NOS military and civilian set (top left and top center). The closest color I got was the top right of which I made a bunch of sets and sold them (more green than olive, which I actually liked better). The bottom two rows are the individual color test batches...done every few days, then having to make a new mold every few batches...on and on.
I've considered doing it again, but there just wasn't enough big interest in knocking them out. I already have $1K in R&D...which wasn't worth making a handful of sets per year. Just figured I'd share.
