EX Australian Army Suzuki DR250

Post by hell-fire » Mon Sep 04, 2017 12:01 am

I recently saved this from being broken up for parts,

It is a 1985 model Suzuki DR250cc and our Army never had lots of them, these were mainly used by Transport unit section commanders, Signal Corp, Military Police and Special Forces had them as well, needs a few parts of which I have gathered most of them, after I get some more information to clarify a few points I will start a massive tidy up.

If there is interest I will post more photos.

Good for you for saving it! Post pix of the clean up. Definitely worth saving, and a unique bike! Plus, it'll be fun to ride! Is there any sort of nomenclature tags on it?

G'Day Chad,

Yes it does have tags on it on both sides of the headlight surround you can just see one in the first picture, some of the parts I need have started arriving and I got a bargain replacment seat in minty condition so all is going well so far, lots of cleaning up to and painting to do though as this Bike has had a hard life .

Update time.

The bike has been at an old school bike shop and is being worked on as I type, they have it running and is starts easily after some Carburetter work needs a new cam chain and a couple of other little tweaks.

They think I am mad for spending money on this old thing but it is history and as I work for our Defence Department out here and making contact with the right people I was able to find out its original registered number and by sheer chance a guy sent me a couple of photos of it in service with the Military Police.

So there is no way I am not saving it now.

Note. If anyone knows where I can get a rear Parcel rack for one of these please get in touch.

That is awesome! Being able to find history to go along is lucky! This restoration is minor, compared to some crazier stuff people have restored!

Well over Xmas I have had the chance to do some work on this bike, I actually purchased a civillian parts one which gave me lots of handy bolts, covers as well as near new seat (not the one that is on it now) and a box of other parts came with it as well.

Still some way to go, I have almost given up on the finding the rear rack but I have another one of a Suzuki which will do with a little work, I think the Motorcycle looks way better now and it is a major boost to have it loking much better.

That's the best way to buy them, when no one wants them!
I hear that all the time when I show my 42WLA Harley as the older guys say back then I could had purchased them 42WLA's for $500 and I say why not?

Nice bike! Keep up the good work and keep chopping away at it and you will win.

Its Been a long time but the Bike runs like a rocket and since learning to weld I made a fairly good replica of the luggage rack, I had a lot of trouble getting 2 of the Blackout lights, just a few little things to 100% but it has come a long way,

Well done, great restoration.

I rode all round North Queensland and New South Wales on them while I was a young Military Policeman 👍

I’d love to find one to restore

Cheers
