1945 Columbia Compax paratrooper rear wheel adjustment question

Post by bourg4th » Thu Aug 31, 2017 12:00 pm

I have had this 1945 Military(yes the serial number has been checked)Columbia Compax Paratrooper bicycle. I stripped it down just about a month ago and repainted it. I noticed that there are supposed to be two rear axle adjustment screws on the frame that tighten the chain and maintain the wheel to center. They are gone of course. Can anyone tell me what size they are supposed to be? Are they the same size as Schwinn adjusters 1/4 x 24 thread or something else. I made a trip to the local hardware / bike store, they were to help. I now know that 10 x 24 is too small and 1/4 x 24 is too large. They didn't have anything in between like a 12 x 24 I do need some info on the subject and adjusters.
