Type III WLA exhaust hardware question.

Post by matt506 » Mon Jul 17, 2017 6:13 am

Ok getting the old girl cleaned up for the Waseon motorcycle show to be judged. I currently have the exhaust off and putting together the clamp hardware. If I remember the two round head bolts holding the middle clamp and the rear mount for the skid plate is a incorrect length. They probably kept the same bolt from the WL but forgot to compensate for the skid plare because there is no way a 3/4 length screw will fit that with a lock washer and nut.
Also the diagram in the TM shows these as hex head even though the description describes them as round head. My question is ; what is the general con scence on these two bolts? Round or hex and what length? The lower clemp hole does fit the noted bolt described. Change both or only 1?

Matt,

The round head bolt is used in the center hole of the clamp body it's self to clamp the body together.
This round head screw is the same screw used on the ammo box and scabbard bracket up on the front fender.

The long hex bolt is used to fasten the clamp to the frame and also is used to fasten the skid plate to the rear of the bike this hex bolt is 066B

Cool thats what im looking for. Obviously the TM is wrong. Now I can adjust and go with a bolt we hopefully will all agree on.

Ok TM shows the following
HRD 066. 5/ 16 NF. X 1
HRD 066A 5/16 NF X. 1 1/8

Toms NOS parts shows a HRD 066B as a 5/16 NF X 1 3/8

No 066b listed in the TM so we still use the 1 3/8th one?

Yep! 066B

I think the 066 bolt is called out and left over from when the WL parts number system was used in the manual and was not upgraded in these military WLA parts manuals.

066 used only when a skid plate was not used.

That makes scence as the added letter extend the bolt by 1/8th.
