HARLEY WLA TIMING QUESTION

Post by Robbby84 » Sun Jun 18, 2017 11:24 pm

Hi everybody

last saturday I got crazy on my WLA, trying to get her start after the restoration...

Up to now she doesn't run: I've checked the timing ( Line on the flywheel -> opening of contacts on ignition)
The carburator has been completely rebuilded by a great guy that has a lot of experience and tested for a week on his wla... but... this is the situation...

https://youtu.be/5FP5TthxVQU

If I try to open trottle...she blows down
If I open choke complitely...she rises like opening trottle...

Is it possible I set the timing on second cylinder instead the first one?
How can I check it?

Thank you in advance

Check for manifold leaks.Make sure the high speed needle is in if it's a fixed jet set up.There is a leak tester you can make or buy.A plate that bolts on in place of the carb, with an air fitting.Someone on here may know where to order one.An easy way to check is,get it running and spray a little carb cleaner around manifold nuts,If it races, you have a bad seal.
good luck

With any internally combination engine if she doesn't start? I always check first for a spark at the spark plugs and you have a spark then next I move to the fuel delivery system if you have the two she should start?

OLDABEWLA, if you check the movie, you'll see that the bike starts anyway. I've already checked sparks and coil...set the ignition point as indicated in the manual, but my dubt is that I've setted the ignition timing on the second cilynder insted of the first.
I was asking if all these symptoms could be related to this mistake...

I'll check the ignition timing again...and give you a feedback

The high speed needle is correctly placed.
I suppose to have no leaks, otherwise I think I will have rpm increasing also with choke lever in middle position....

Hi,
I didn't watch the video.

Coils can also act as a timing problems from both originals and reproductions.

There is also timing marks on the side of the timers circuit breaker base it there to line up the timer cable strap.
