Today I was showing my BMW R75 (replica) to some Marines. One of the young Marines asked me 'why was the exhaust pipe almost smashed flat at the end?". I did not have an answer for him. Why is the exhaust pipe flattened on the end on antiqued motorcycles?

Re: Why is the exhaust flattened
Simple: noise.
An open pipe sounds harder and deeper than a flattened pipe.
