Thanks for the interest. I've read a lot of good things about it in the AMCA magazine. PA might make it more difficult for those west of the MS River. Let's keep the discussion going, gather intel and hopefully we can put something together for summer of 2018.

I checked on taking a bike to France for the 75th D-Day celebration. I think it would be in excess of $5k just for the bike, then there are concerns about securing the bike for 10 days over night, etc. There was a short invite on another thread, and I would love to participate with my bike, but I might just have to go in person without the heavy metal.

Otherwise I think a gathering of military bikers in the US would be a fun annual or every other year event. Perhaps we can link with an AMCA chapter in the future and have them sponsor such an event also. That might increase the ranks of the AMCA.

I also belong to the Heart of America Wing of the Commemorative Air Force at New Century Air Center, (Old Olathe Naval Air Station) New Century, KS. Yesterday at our monthly meeting we discussed upcoming events. I proposed this idea to the group, provided how to get to this forum on the web, how to become a member here on g503.com and received much positive interest. You may be contacted by the events committee. 8)

Super idea. I'll look forward to seeing what we can do. Please tell them I would be happy to help with any orchestration possible to get G members there. Then we can see if there is good interest for that location and time.

Great idea. I'm on the West Coast and am always looking for events to participate in.

Not bad!
Next year is Louisville, Ky. and they may even have an outdoor area for vehicle demonstration.

That is what I was waiting for, was the location of the 2018 MVPA Convention.

Although KY is not in the center of the US, it is at least closer than many other locations.

Its a great consideration.

I'm in either way. Davenport meet is great or one of the AMC meets you would get big time magazine exposer. KC works for me to. Rockford is great but they are running out of room and though my WLA goes there each year there is very little to do or see if you are only into the motorcycle aspect. If any thing I have big time connections to the HD museum and with actual Davidson family members. And could easily set up some logistics for it. Nice tours lodgeing and such plus we have a great AMC club who has a few antique motorcycle events at the museum and old Papst brewery. Really is a German atmospher. Either way im up for a get together.

Matt,
Another great recommendation. With a few more comments, i'll consolidate all the locations and ideas and put up a straw-man and see what the most reasonable event parameters are for the most interested riders. I think given everything everyone has to do and is involved in a target for summer/early fall of 2018 is best, but as for the location and events, we can work on that together.

Sounds great Oz. By then I will be retired from the military and have all my weekends. Remind me and I will send some pictures of our rides up here and bike games we host at the knucklehead reunion at the HD museum in July.

You East Coast guys should come to The Reading WWII weekend and USE your Bikes on the convoy!!!! You should also come to Ike's Farm and again, USE YOUR BIKES ON THE CONVOY!!!! These are 2 opportunities to do convoy control riding, and the Police leave us alone when we are Yellow Lining up past the convoys!!! It is one thing to have a Motorcycle, it is an entirely different thing (Very Enjoyable) to actually USE the Motorcycle in one of the rolls it was used for during WWII!!!!!
This type of Convoy control is NOT all that common here in the States. It is however VERY common in the UK and Europe in general. I got my introduction to it at the "Race to the Bridge" around Arnhem, and I have been hooked ever since!!! :D

You further away guys can come also. Heck, we have had a Dutchman on a Matchless G3L at Reading a couple of times!!! If he can make the trip from Holland to PA, I would think coming from most anywhere in the USA should not be that hard!!!

Of the 2 events, if you are traveling a LONG distance, Ike's Farm will give you more "Wheel Time" and about a 40 mile round trip convoy to chase along!

My point here is that when an opportunity like this is available, TAKE IT and enjoy your Motorcycle!!!!! You will get to see the Entire Convoy, something that NOT everybody gets to do.

Here is a link to a Motorcycles Riders Eye view of parts of the Reading 2016 convoy: http://big-red-one.org/2016_06_READING_ ... EKEND.html

Anybody interested in USING their Motorcycles at either of these events can feel free to contact me.

WWII Weekend at Reading very carefully controls who gets on the field with a vehicle (it is an active airfield), so it definitely wouldn't work for an HQ or even a ride through. Could be cool as a day destination if based somewhere else, there is motorcycle parking. Expensive though. Haven't been to Olney, but have heard its a fabulous show for vintage bikes
