Military Motorcycle Gathering in the US

Post by 17thAirborne » Fri Jan 13, 2017 12:06 pm

How much interest would there be for a gathering of military motorcycles, all eras, all makes somewhere in the central US? We might be able to piggyback on the AMCA or just plan and schedule an informal get together at a convenient and fun location.

\Kansas City is central and has a great military Museum, but am open to other ideas

What say you.

Yet to own my first military cycle. Helped do a cosmetic resto on a early WLA.
That said I am located in central Kansas I have a large vehicle shop (38000sqft) on 7acres (gravel).
A possible stop off or rally point?
Points of interest:
57 miles east is the Kansas Motorcycle Museum http://www.ksmotorcyclemuseum.org in Marquette, Ks.
260 miles east is the Liberty Memorial WW1 National Museum in Kansas City.
110 miles south-east is the home and birthplace of "Doc" a B-29 Superfortress in Wichita, Ks.
Just some food for thought

Sounds great. If we can get a dozen or so folks interested I would be happy to begin planning based on when, where and what everyone would like to do/see.

Kevin,

Thanks for your generous offer. sounds like some great things near where you live.

I'm thinking about setting up at the WWII military reenactment at the Rockford, I'll in September if my bike is finished?
I guess it's a huge show! I know they have many vehicles there and just not on display.

The Davenport bike show brings in a large number of the international crowed due to the fact they are head out to Milwaukee before or after that show.

Only problem I can see with a gathering at a motorcycle venue is the bikes seem to all blend in after being there for a little wile.

This would be a great time!

Using a large venue like davenport would not be a bad idea!! Iowa is "relatively" central to the east and west coast.

Being on the East coast, I'm not in range. Great idea though.

The big event in our area each year is WWII Weekend at the Reading, PA Airport in June. Over 80 re-enacting groups, lots of vehicles, and some 30 aircraft including most of the heavy bombers, fighters, and carrier stuff. All the vehicles are driven during the day and all the aircraft fly. Last year there were probably 6 or 8 WLA's, an XA, several Indians, a couple Matchless, and several Zundapps. Most of the vehicles (except the heavy tracks) parade into Reading on Friday with many of the motorcycles doing convoy policing. Really cool event if you're in the area first weekend in June.

I also attend the event in Reading Pa. There are several WLAs, Indians and a matchless in our group, 1st ID, Big Red One. Our motorcycle riders serve as MPs during the convoy for the liberation of Reading. They perform the same function at Ike's for the liberation of New Oxford. I am on the hunt for a WLA or an Indian.

Perhaps we could target 2018 and give us enough time to plan and gather a good group of folks.

I would like to attend.
Hopefully my WLA would be done by then.
KC would be great. I like the idea of Kevin's place too!

Glad to hear it. I'll keep this thread active and with a group of interested parties i will start some planning with everyone's ideas.

I'd be in for a big gathering!

The Oley, PA vintage bike show (an AMC event) is a HUGE gathering of old bikes. Held every year in April so not always the best riding weather. Nothing after 1970 allowed. Reading Airshow would be too complicated to base this from but an organized ride-through could be pretty cool?

My early 1942 WLA and I are in Delaware and my group has 2 other WLAs in good running shape (one in NJ and one in CT). We could certainly trailer it out to someplace.
