WLA pressure gauge experiment.
Ok after a good conversation with OZ and Chris here on this board I did a little thinking and investigating. I believe Chris you cut a ORD schraeder down to make it a WLA type pressure gauge? What if we took a rather common and inexpensive vintage Ballon tire gauge and cut it down? I know very little on how the valve on the top is held on, threaded, or soldered on? Does any one have some real close ups of their gauge and any size info? Any markings ect. I think this with a cheap modern top dechromed would work.

Wow I am truly in awe. How do you think the valve on top is mounted to the cap?

Re: WLA pressure gauge experiment.
The guage (jeep gauge) I used measures 5 1/2" from the end to just below where the cap screws on as shown in Craig's image. When I disassembled the old jeep gauge, i used a Benson torch to heat the head portion and then was able to screw off the top. I cut the tube end at 7/16" )measured from the top of the tube cap where the neck begins to narrow out) I would go 9/16 to give a little more room, I checked the thread using a thread gauge and purchased a 3/8 24 NF die to make the threads on the handle end.
On a post note, I did this a long time ago and can't member if I had to purchase the 3/8 24NF tap to clean up the threads in the head or not. You will know once you heat off the end of the gauge. Just measure the threads before you use the die cutter.
I'm not saying my way id correct, I'm only saying it worked for me
