I know that brass WLA tags were being used up till 1943
Bruce in his book states that the generator 32E tags were replaced in 1943 with aluminum and the small WLA type tags changed to aluminum also not sure when though?
I have personally owned and seen these NOS smaller type WLA data tags made from aluminum in the original nos packing.
Brass and copper was a very critical war material and shortages in 1943 changed things and even the war bikes were trim from the copper as well as the 1943 pennies we all know.

Hello
thanks for your feedback. I was on the impression that brass data plate were only for WLA produced early 42 at the maximum. After I thought it was a move to still data plate. Am I right?

Have been reading about the plates also. In Palmer's book on p30 he states:
"The 1940-1941 plates were made from copper. The No 3531-40 Type 2 plate was made from brass. Later plates were made from sheet zink."
I cannot find a reference for when the zink plates began to be used. I do know that I have held in my hands an original brass and zink tag of the type 3531-42M. Palmer attributes these to the Type III, IV and V. All I can surmise is that between the beginning of production of the Type III, (8 May 42) and the end of production of the Type V (May 44) the plates changed from Brass to zink.
I suspect this change was a War Department directive when concerns about certain metals scarcity arose. Perhaps the Jeep people have a firm date on when Jeep data tags changed from Brass to Zink. I'll see what I can find there.

Dave at Wayback Wheels or old dudes may have the Schrader tube stem with caps that go over your stem and look just like what the WLA's had in WWII. They do not make tube with these Schrader metal stems.
