Reproduction Parts for the G519

Postby Bozman » Thu May 17, 2012 6:42 pm

As I gather parts to restore my Columbia G519s I have come along some of the more difficult parts and would like to see if there would be any interests in them be reproduced.

The first part would be the lower truss rod bracket.
The second part would be the actual truss rods
The third part would be the upper truss rod bracket
The last part would be the OD hand grips.

Any takers?

I'm still looking for a current supplier for the tool bag buckles!

Why not just reproduce the whole bike!! If I am not mistaken you can pretty much put together a WWII Jeep at this point from repo. parts. I know that there are some hard, if not almost impossible parts to locate for these bikes, and in these instances a reproduction part may be the only alternative, but it seems to me that reproduction parts are becoming the answer more and more frequently whenever an original part is deemed to be too expensive or a little too difficult to find. A number of these parts have a way of showing up if we have some patience. Remember, several years ago you could not locate a Persons tool pouch. So Ken Boise starting making reproductions. A few years latter original tool pouches started to show up on a fairly regular basis. Ten years ago it was very unusual to see a WWII Huffman/Columbia on Ebay. In the past 5-6 years at least a dozen of these bikes in various stages of completeness have been posted on Ebay. My point being that most of these parts will most likely show up. Just have patience. Now, I suppose I will start receiving a bunch of hate mail. Oh Well!

Bill,

All true! I actually looked into having Worksman repro the G519 a few years back. But alas unless I wanted to buy 300 bicycles and then sell them myself, they were not going to change their production line. Being an avid (some say rabid) reenactor, I have stuff I use all the time in reeactments and my collector grade stuff. Eventually I look to replace the repop items with original stuff when they show up or I will use the repro items for every day use.

By the large amount of non-responses on this post I will probably just make some for my own use until I can find the right 70 year old originals.

The hunt will continue for more G519 parts to trade for the parts I need.

Boz:

I'm with you on the truss parts, I need 'em too.

I did pick up an MG frame, so my list of needed items is getting shorter.

If the sun ever comes out again in Seattle, I'll lay out everything and post a photo. Off the top of my head, I know I needs the following:

Seat Pan
Leather Seat Cover
Seven style seat post
Front Hub - eclipse 36 - 10 wartime
NOS skip tooth chain

And I'd like to have:

Persons tool kit
Bevins black bell

WWII Huffman/Columbias used a straight style seat post not a 7 shaped post.

They did? Sweet, I have one of those already. So that leaves the metal seat pan and the leather cover. Then we're ready to roll, seat-wise...
