A number of Bicycle Companies made bikes during WWII that were minimalist in structure and known as ''Victory'','' Civilian Defense'' or ''Defense'' Bicycles. Although they were used by both Civilians and Military personnel they should not be confused with the True contracted US Military Bicycles produced by Huffman and Columbia. These ''Victory '' bikes were single speed, coaster brake bikes sold without chain guards, or kick stands to save on metal and there was very little to no chrome used . The early Wartime bikes were 26'' lightweights and latter some balloon tire bikes were produced. Makers of these bikes were companies such as Schwinn, Columbia, Shelby to name a few.
