I followed the auction, the high bid was $60,852 without meeting the reserve. I'm surprised the GPA market is so soft. I will just keep mine until they return to a respectable value.

Cheers,
Tony

GPA for sale

Think the GPA market finally is over the top. 60-70000 for a restored one is just right. Prices of last years were just to high to reach. Seems like the current owners hoped to get 40-50000 profit out of theirs. Will take a while to get there again.

I think you have to restore one to the highest level to understand how much it really costs to do it right, especially using original parts. It took 10 years of collecting and restoring to get mine to that level. I purchased original parts from all over the world and have 3600 hours of labor in my build. this is definitely not a run of the mill jeep :D That said, I understand the market sets the price, however I'm pretty sure the owners of high quality GPA's will not sell at that price so supply will shrink until demand drives the price up.

I agree with Tony on this one. Just because one GPA does not sell says nothing about its value. There are a limited number of buyers for vehicles in this price range and many over the years have been from Europe. Unfortunately, the economic conditions in Europe recently have not been favorable and the buyers have not been present. As Tony indicated, the complexity and hours required to restore a GPA is not well understood except for the people that have done it.

I have run into a lot of people who have tried to duplicate the vehicle out of wood or other material and failed. One local entrepreneur was able to develop a modern day amphibious jeep (called the Panther?) that sells for over $100,000 and is only 2 wheel drive.

My opinion,

Donovan.

I can not agree more with you.
$60,000 is not selling a well restored factory class GPA, its giving it away IF it has been restored to factory condition.
To restore just the hull today costs a fortune in time and money if you have to pay some one to professionally repair it.
The cost to properly epox painting every part of a disassembled GPA is high, then you have to put it back together.

I would not sell mine for any thing like $60k, sorry just does not cut it.
Cost to rebuild these vehicles is way more than that, and you have to find or make the parts that are missing, you can keep adding $$$.

You are correct it is supply and demand, but not a fire sale.

PS a first class restored GPA that I listed earlier this year has left Australia for Europe and the owner did get back what it owed him.
well, well over 60K. I have since heard that the new owner is very happy with his purchase.

Just my thoughts
Best regards
