How fresh is the rebuild in miles ??
If you are in a warmer climate and use straight weight oil, 30W. in colder climate, 20W.
Multi grade, 10w/30 or 10w/40.
I would not use 15w/40 or any diesel engine API rated oil until you have at least 1000 to 1500 miles on the "new engine".
Same goes if you are in to synthetic oil. To slick. The rings need a chance to wear in.
Be sure the oil has a good API gas engine rating.
Stay away from the " light duty " oil.

I believe that you'll also want to ensure your oil has enough ZDDP additive. I've read that the cam lobes/lifters in old engines need additional protection to keep them from wearing prematurely.

There's a good amount of discussion on this on the civilian jeep forums. I have yet to search this topic on g503 to see how much has been posted so far.

I'm not an expert so I won't tell you what you should do. I do like to research for myself, so I'd suggest searching ZDDP on vintage/antique vehicles to see for yourself what is posted. One point I have seen more than once is ZDDP is necessary but too much is bad also.

Hopefully, this will help.

I put Rotella in mine as it supposed to have the additives for older engines that newer oils don't have

ZDDP was a hot topic, some time back, Steve.
As recall, back then, Rotella was the only oil left, to have it, but the intel was, Shell was going to remove it at some point.
Have not heard any new intel since. Can't say that it does anymore.
What is the sales pitch, " New and Improved !".
I didn't think there was a problem to begin with !!
