M38 A1 Headlight Buckets

Post by Andy Howell » Mon Jun 12, 2017 8:05 am

Greetings. I need a couple of headlight bucket assys for an M38A1 grill. I thought I had some but can't find them if I do.
Are they specific to the A1 or will any M series buckets fit? I have a later non- folding grill if that makes any difference.
Thanks

Pre 1962 M-35 6X6 REO type are he same, Gotta be careful as they went to Packard Rubber type with connectors that stuck out the rear. 5 Tons pre 62 will also be the same. The correct doors are specific to the typ you want.

Thanks Ben.
One other question- Will 12 volt bulbs fit these buckets?
Reason I ask is because I am "Militerizing" a '60 CJ5 w/ M38A1 parts. I have the grill, slave receptacle indent, a M series fuel filler tube, cap & side opening, rear panel, dash, seat frames & all the asorted small stuff.

12 Volt bulbs will fit the buckets. Only thing is that the 55-71 CJ-5 Grill is not recessed fpr the buckets like M-38A1 and the parking light holes are not configured for markers. Your CJ Grill will be similar in appearance with the buckets flush mounted. It will look more authentic if you can locate a non hinged M-38A1 Grill.

Thanks a lot.
That's what I have, a non hinged A1 grill. I thought I had a pair of light buckets but I've not been able to find them in the vast archives of "Stuff" I have accumulated in the last 61 years!
that's never happened to you, has it?
I have a bud on the other end of the county who has a pasture full of M38A1 jeeps he's been saving for 50 years. He don't usually sell parts (Read NEVER) But I had asked him about a few little parts the other day & he said he would go look for me. When he called back he was in a FROTH! Seems the crackheads had cut the fence on the other side of the pasture & had been hacking his Jeeps apart with axes & hauling the parts out on a home made ground slide! He was sick & was dealing with this so I didn't press him for anything.
Oh well I been sitting on a really nice GPW grill & it may be time to dust it off & do some trading!

There is one precaution when buying used buckets for the Early M-35, and the M-38/M-38A1, if they have had previous civilian use, the threads for the headlight door screws may be worn out.

Headlight buckets for the Jeep Truck M715 and ambulance M725 also fit, with the same caution, They also use Packard connectors.
