Need CJ5 ID help
I'm new to jeeps and I have a question; I found this jeep and am trying to figure out what year it was made. The serial (firewall) begins with: 7805014. From what I gather, it may be a 55' from the last 6 digits of the serial number. I also deduce that it is an open cab (05), left drive and has an early motor (14). What in the world does the (78) mean?

Re: Need CJ5 ID help
Maybe a picture of the Jeep and the ID plate would help.
The first 2 digits of some early CJ5's was 8305.
I have no idea what a '7805' was.

I think I figured it out! I'm 95% sure its a M606A(?). I wasn't able to get photos but it did have a s/n tag that looks like one when i googled m606a2 (prefix "780514), just a slightly higher serial and not a Kaiser. It has one battery tray, low wipers, the number on the water pump boss was partial (..F or E 91 67). All blackout lights are there, motor intact and moves by hand. It also has a Jeep Specialty hard top and is solid over all. I've never seen one for sale before so if I were to investigate buying, what are these things going for in almost running condition? I've seen some photos from Brazil, France, Vietnam and Argentina but not one CONUS. I'll take all the education I can get!

I agree with you. M606 from the late 1960's or early 1970's, not 1950's.
That is still the serial prefix, you are still missing the 6 six digit serial to the right of those numbers.

Ok, I have a few photos I have but can't upload, ugh. Trying from photobucket without linking to my account.
Yes, I now suspect it is a late 1960's-1971 M606A? Is it unusual to see a M606A? stateside?
Serial 014388

Re: Need CJ5 ID help
I've not had success uploading from pb so I created an album on the g503 photo album site:
http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/
Once the photos were there, they loaded easily on this board.
