Thanks Wes, I needed to rebuild my engine sooner than what I wanted and just have not bought a book yet.

Question: My rod nuts are just a nut with some slits in the sides(similar to but not castle nuts). Should I use these? What is a PAL nut? This engine had a rough life,is there a nut and then another nut to back it up?

Also, this is the first engine that I have ever built that used lock washers on the mains, am I suppose to replace them? They look real good. I am more familiar with Chevy,Ford,Dodge,VW,etc.

Thank You,
Stewman

The rod nuts you describe are a steel selflocking nut. Pal Nuts are stamped steel backup lock nuts. The correct nut is a standard non-locking type. The pal nuts are available from most early jeep suppliers. I'll see if I can find a photo of a pal nut for you.
