Rims for a CJ2A / 3A

Post by Bob Bell » Thu Sep 25, 2014 9:02 am

I have 16 'civilian' rims. 5 are on my 2A, 5 are for a 3A project and 2 are on my BT3 trailer. The others are extra. Is there a thread anywhere that discusses civilian rims? They are not all the same, although none are from non-jeeps (ie there are no hub cap provisions. All are 16" rimes although the width varies by 1/4 to 1/2 and inch on some. Some are stamped KH (Kelsey-Hayes i believe) and a couple might be M38 / M38A1. (They have that little hole drilled close to the center between stud holes.
I am about to buy new tires and would like to mount them on rims appropriate for a 2A.
Thanks in anticipation!

Have owned dozens of flat fenders over the years including 1945 CJ2A 10011 which I sold in 2002.
First 4WD was an Austin Champ in 1965, and then a GPW UK license number HRO 443, sold in 1974.

If you don't have tires on them, then inside will be a makers mark and a date code. I know Kelsey Hayes was principal supplier and other brand was Mile Marker? I am not sure what there mark looked like. There are a couple topics on rims on this forum. Will try to find some on search function.

There was also wheel's made by Motor Wheel. Those did not have the raised ring around where the lug bolts go as did the Kelsey-Hays made wheels. Those wheels had the raised area individualy around each lug hole.

I also know there was the solid center and slotted center rims.
The slotted disc has four slots spaced evenly around the outer diameter of the center disc where the disc meets the I.D. of the rim.
How does all this fit into the picture ??

Just a side note. If anyone needs the Motor Wheel type, I have two that are in good condition.
