GDZ 4817A Generator

Postby Carl Laney » Sun Jun 24, 2012 4:18 pm

I have a CJ2A motor in my 1942 military jeep. I know, it's not right, but that's they way she came.

My generator isn't working so I ordered a new W.O.F. A 1246 generator from a suppler. But it doesn't fit the motor mounting brackets. The GDZ brackets are about 6 and 3/4 inches apart, and the W.O.F. A 1246 brackets are 7 and 3/4 inches apart--a half inch difference.

I'll either have to rebuilt the GDZ generator or make some adjustment to accomodate the new generator. Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks!!

A bracket swap would seem to be the easiest solution or see if you can return your genny for one to fit the bracket. A cut and reweld is also possible.

Carl,

As Steve offered, a bracket change would be easy. My personal preferences - especially when dealing with parts that may have been swapped out (like your engine) and factoring in the non-stop issue of replacement parts being different (but the vendor assures us that's the correct part) - is to always take in the part that fits and get it fixed. If its possible. Then there are no fitment issues.

Thanks, guys. I ordered a MB support bracket and that solved my problem. I didn't realize that the MB generators were slightly larger than the civi generators. There's always something new to learn!
