12th Bomb Group "Earthquakers". Trying to get a bead on what this trailer is or was built from. Could it be British, Italian or German? Most of the other photos of the time show this BG with mix of British and American tents & trucks.
Thanks
Matt

Re: Small Trailer ID?
My guess is this may be a home built unit that this unit made for their use. But just a guess. Best wishes; Leo

Re: Small Trailer ID?
Not sure about the origin of that trailer....but it has a USA number on it that could possibly be looked up. It isn't one used on the Bantams or MBTs as they did not use a "03" series of USA numbers....offhand though if it has a USA number then it should be in the "system" and possibly a gov't contracted trailer. That is not to say that what we are looking at has not been "modified" for field use though!

It has combat wheels on it. My guess would be the motor pool mechanics threw it together out of spare parts from a 1/4 ton bone pile.

Re: Small Trailer ID?
Thanks all. Chuck brings up an interesting point. The 0 starting registration number is part of the standardized system for trailers. I found the first batch of Convertos began with 036. So again not it. I can make out leaf springs too. So if this was field made or field modified it was done with great purpose. It wasn't just cobbled together.
Looks to me almost like the unidientified trailer here:

Not the British airborne one, the one that is suspected of being German. I think this photo was taken in Tunisia in 1942 or 43. In the same collection of photographs almost all the vehicles larger then the 1/4 ton are British or CMP vehicles in use by the USAAF and half the tents are British as well. With the retreating German and Italian armies it's really anybody's guess.
