Dietz lights

Post by Mtnhdwr » Sun Dec 31, 2017 10:32 am

I am in the process of restoring my 47 T3-C. It has Dietz lights 77-845. I don't think these were original. If anybody knows these lights, are they worth restoring or should I look elsewhere? Were they original to a non combat trailer?

I had to google this light as I was unfamiliar. It really does look like a generic style light.

From what I've learned, the Arrow taillight is original for the civilian T-3. Originally, there should be only one on the drivers side. Have you studied the information on Art's website?

There you'll see what the Arrow looks like, Steve's post above, (there's also information on possible alternate models as well). These lights are hen's teeth.

You'll also find on Art's website a "how-to" on converting Model-T lights as they are readily accessible from multiple vendors. My research has turned up a very close look alike. I have Deitz model G13 or 613 (you'll want to search for both names as it is sometimes difficult to read that first digit and have been listed as both) The bucket usually has 100 stamped on it as well. The reason I like this light is the bucket is the same size as the Arrow and has the duolamp lens like the Arrow. Example:

This is in good condition but I've bought lights like this for a third of its listed price - shop around and compare. The tag bracket would need to be removed to fit the T-3C taillight bracket.

There is also a lot of information shared on a dedicated T-3C forum hosted by the CJ2A Forums:

My trailer came with a second cut out on the passenger side, so I am going to run 2 lamps. Since you have them, you could use them to get up and running ASAP - as they will work just fine, then research and look for an authentic or good look-alike to swap in when you find one - if that's your end goal.

Also, do yourself a favor and copy these images to your computer/device so you can use them for reference. The links I've used will obviously be temporary.

Rus,
Thanks for the great info! I was aware of the arrow lights but these dietz appeared in some 50s and early 60s refrences. I suspect a PO added these but could not confirm for sure. A seconf holr was cut on the passenger side....drives me crazy cuz it looks like they used a sawzall and a bottle of bourbon to get it done. I will cross that hurdle when I get to it.
