Japanese rebuild tag

Post by jeep guy » Tue Aug 01, 2017 9:37 am

Hi all,

I bought some time ago, what I believe is a bantam trailer.
No original dataplate but a rebuild tag from a rebuild depot in Japan.

Trailer was rebuild 10 july 55 by shop GC D.
Tag says rebuild by Japan ordnance command.

Anyone with some more info, as Google doesn't seem to know much.

Thanks in advance

Remember all those trailers on the beach in the 1949 photo on Okinawa? After rebuilding them they got one of those tags. This is also where a data plate for Transportation Equipment was duplicated and used even if the trailer was an earlier one. These trailers went back to the US forces, the Japanese forces and probably any of the UN forces in the KW would have had access to them.

Many ended up in the UN stash up in Norway and were subsequently sold off over the years which accounts for them being found in Europe as well.

If you are LUCKY....this is a US rebuild and if you send me all the "How To Identify" answers at the top of the trailer forum I can possibly give you estimates for the make, DOD and USA numbers. The ACM number is what you need plus the rest of the info!

Interesting, a person has to wonder how many more refurbished trailers are out there? I also own a M100 Dunbar-Kapple 1951 with a rebuild tag stating "Rebuilt By USA Ordnance Depot Oppama" Nov 57, Shop ODO. If you are a member of the MVPA, there's an aricle on it featured in this summers #160 edition. If you google "Oppama Ordnance" you should find some history. Here's an example: https://www.army.mil/article/4612/Men_a ... pied_Japan
