Tandem trailer database questions

Post by Leatherneck17 » Sun Feb 14, 2016 6:50 am

Gentlemen/moderators

May I just pose the question as to how many of us G ers have genuine tandem trailers ? I would be interested to see how many survive ?

My bantam ACM B50604 is a tandem modified trailer and wS reputedly a generator trailer assigned to the 486th BG Sudbury England in 1944-45

How many have tandem trailers ?

Regards

Mine had the pintle and two braces and a socket box on the rear when I got it so I restored it that way:

Here is the socket box and harness before I added the reflector on that side:

When fitting a pintle hook to a trailer, the bracing that is fitted into the chassis/frame has the 1/2" bolts holding it on at the pintle hook end, what size bolt is used at the other end ?
Thanks Brett

I believe they are 7/16 NF but Chuck can tell you for sure.

I'd like to help ya Brett, but we are getting another 2-4 inches of rain today and I'm not too keen on uncovering my trailer to measure the bolts. Suffice it to say, if you can dry-fit 1/2" bolts through the brackets where they are attached to each side of frame then use 'em. The length should be what it takes to pass through the frame with a flat washer on the bolt, then add a lockwasher on the bolt and a hex nut. You should have two or three threads exposed past the nut. NF or Coarse threads? Up to you, but probably coarse I guess. I think that is what my trailer has.

A little trial and error will get you what you need. Unless the bolt Nazi's come to check out your trailer you are good to go.

Remember this is a field expedient mod so some latitude on the bolt size/threads is okay here....

Anyone have the packing list they can post for the tandem trailer equipment? That would be what the "book" says....

Rumor has it that a "refit kit" was available so I would take that as a YES. Take a look at AAW for more on the tandem setup.
