 NO, I don't do Facebook, I can probably say this from all the G503, Zeph we love all your resto's :D they give us all inspiration. I have been waiting for your next one.

I see that Ern came through with the nut and washer :) The trailer is looking great, I will have the same problem when I do mine, I arn't having a trailer socket in the rear panel. Looking to see your soloution. I was thinking of putting the socket in the toolbox, and when using the trailer plug it in and leave the lid up somehow. It might work

Hi Dave,

At this time still trying to determine what my next project will be. I was thinking of knocking out a little bomb trailer that I have, or my 1942 Ben Hur trailer, or maybe both. Then move on to another Dodge WC truck.

I used to not be into FB, but have capitulated. Lots of great Dodge, Jeep and WWII information in general on there. Not made to document projects or find anything that was posted previously, however. That's where forums like this excel. However, It appears these types forums continuing losing members which is a bummer, or maybe it just appears that way to me. Not sure.

Ern did come through on the nut and washer. Nice work. Still pondering how to mount the trailer socket on the GPW. I thought that the holes in the rear cross members would be a good spot, but probably not large enough. I need to poke around under there and see if I can find a solution.

Hi Andy,

No. Not the M5. It is a Mark II trailer:

I have the bomb sans fins. I just need to figure out how to make those:

Nice! Where'd you come across that? And is that a 500 or 1000lb casing? Andy

The trailer came from the San Diego area a couple of years ago. It's a 1000lb bomb that I found near my office lying in someone's yard along an alley. Had my eye on it for years, and finally made a deal for it. Picked it up before I had the trailer, so I had my eye out for a trailer after that.

Ditto!!! I don't do Facebook but every time I log on to the G I look for an update from you, especially during/after a weekend. I don't comment much so as not to derail your threads. Please continue to post here...I know it's a pain and takes considerable effort, but the issues you run into and the solutions are great learning points and restoration tips for the rest of us. Looking forward to following the next project!

So that's 2 of us, thanks Trapper :) that don't want you to go over to FB. How many more members do we need to keep you here :P

Well Zeph, that bomb trailer is only going to keep you busy, for a couple of weekends. The Ben Hur a little longer, so have you got another Dodge awaiting a resto?

Did you see that Chuck started a thread, about trailer sockets for early jeeps not retrofit with sockets?

Ok have a Happy New Year :D

Hi Tom and Dave,

Thank you for all the kind compliments! Okay, I know a lot of people don't get into FB at all. I primarily use it to look at the WWII military stuff on there and post in some of the those forums.

On a related topic from above...taking Dave's advice, I drug this home on Saturday:

It's a Dodge WC57 Command Car. I posted some photos on FB, but it becomes very evident that FB is worthless for posting projects. Great for a single or group of pictures. If one posts a photo and description, it takes forever to find it if you can in the future...and that is only if it is your posting. If you look for someone else's previous post it is nearly impossible to find. Especially if one does not know who's post they were looking at originally, So, all of your points are valid.

I konw that the G503 has a FB page, but it is only Jeep related. Now I could see both this forum and the G503 FB page working together where one could post a link on the G503 FB page so that it comes back here, however that would only work for Jeep projects. G503 would need to have a FB page for every section on the G503 web page which isn't likely to happen.

I just saw the trailer socket post, Dave. I'll have to poke around under my GPW when I have time and start thinking about a socket solution.

Happy New Year everyone!
Zeph

Hi Dave,

My wife is still getting used to my shenanigans. Lately she has been giving me pressure to make the house at least as large as the garage. Overall, she is constantly on me to sell everything. She is not an OD fan whatsoever, and she thinks the garage should always be empty for some reason. I always think the garage should be just short of stuffed to capacity.

I haven't posted on the ww2dodge forum for sometime. Sort of dead over there, and I don't get a lot if any response when I post. I'll probably stick with the G503 and FB.

Take care,
Zeph

Well, it's come down to the dreaded wiring. At least there are some good wiring diagrams out there:

Image

Image

Image

It's like building a ship in a bottle. Lots of wires and very little room.

Image

Finished wiring the rest of the trailer. Next I tried to install the cotter pins for the shocks. OMG!...that was the hardest part of the project so far...took me forever to get the pins in there! About ready to wrap this project up. I think I probably will not bore anyone in the future by posting any additional projects. I think I will only post on FB going forward...I'll see how it goes.
If you can, will you please post a picture of where the fiber washer sits? If you have it already together, can you explain in words where it goes? Thanks.

Are you talking about the fiber washer "M" that is inside the plug here?:

Yes. My main question is this. The clamp does go below it to keep the wires from being pulled out, correct?

I think so. That's how I did it. As it is orientated in the illustration, I had the miniature cable clamp "o" at the bottom and then the fiber washer. Not too sure if that is according to Hoyle, but I thought it would be better than having the clamp come into contract with the exposed wire connectors.
