BO Switch Bantam

Postby Hans Egemalm » Sat Jun 02, 2012 10:10 am

Hi again,

As I said in the thread "Bantam barn find" I still have trouble with the BO Switch!

Service tail light and service stop light works! Only luck perhaps.....
When I turn the switch to the right nothing happens!

I got it from the NL. Is it perhaps a WOF BO Switch?
Image
Inside it says BT and BS. Is that the same as BOT and BOS?
Otherwise it says S, T, ST and SS
Maybe something is wrong with the switch?

I have found drawings/pictures of trailer wiring/ trailer socket wiring
and I can see differences in them.

Can someone tell me where to look
for the right drawing?
Also need wiring drawings/pictures for the trailer plug and trailer socket on jeep! Just to be sure! :D

There is a new Wiring Harness on the trailer.

Regards,

You need to hook it up to a power source and perform a continuity test with the switch in both positions. Good chance corrosion is your enemy! 8)

There are European copies of the Cole-Hersee and Douglas BO Switch. Here is some wiring info you can check out. Remove the rear cover on your BO switch and compare the wiring and the schematic to yours:

Check the wiring to your Trailer Socket on the jeep and then through the intervehicular cable and the BO switch and back to the lamps.

Topkick: From the beginning corrosion was my problem! Nothing or everything was lighten up!
I cleaned the trailer socket and suddenly service light worked!
Chuck: I guess that BT and BS is that the same as BOT and BOS?
I will check this tomorrow.

Now it's time for a glass of wine! :D ....time IS 8.40 PM here......

Thanks guys!

Hans:

You probably got the BO switch from the same NL dealer, I sourced it as period correct WWII switch.

See this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=18&t=180081

But only jeep police will know, that it is not the correct switch. :D

Hi guys, I dont wish to hi- jack Hans thread, but I could also use some wiring advice. I have a NOS trailer wiring loom which I have put into a NOS Cole Hersey BO switch. My problem is, at the moment I only have a late type Rubber lead and plug to use. This has 4 wires, brown/black/red and white. Can I asume that the black wire can be cut off and not used? and does the red wire connect direct to earth on the chassis?

Thanks in advance, Tim , UK.

Tim...if you have the WWII-style plug and the 4-wire cable you are correct....use the W/B/R leads and trim off the Black lead. The Red/Ground is attached to the trailer frame next to the switch.

In this photo the screw is where your would attach the GROUND wire eyelet to on the inside. Be sure to remove the paint so that a good ground between the eyelet and the trailer frame is made. When you mount your taillight buckets, there are some toothed washers that also are used on the brackets to get a good ground from the frame to the buckets themselves.

Hans,
I'm glad to hear I was correct, and you were able to solve your problem. Most of the time, corrosion and dirty ground surfaces and wiring are the key factors in no juice getting to the light bulb. 8)
