Code enforcement folks make sure you don't have stuff you shouldn't have like grass too tall, too many trailers or cars on blocks in your driveway. Some places they are reasonable and some places they are like Ghengis Kahn.

Exactly, Steve.Steve Webb wrote:Code enforcement folks make sure you don't have stuff you shouldn't have like grass too tall, too many trailers or cars on blocks in your driveway. Some places they are reasonable and some places they are like Ghengis Kahn.
She works for the County. They have a few Building Inspectors and one Code Enforcement Officer for the entire County. Around here it is complaint driven. You are good to go in having most any structure or excess items (rusty gold) lying around in the yard, but if someone complains the Code Enforcement Officer will come out and check to make sure you don't have any "so called" land use violations or public nuisances. Therefore, don't piss off the neighbors and give them a reason to turn you in for an inspection. They are pretty busy around here, so you have to have a pretty good violation to get a visit. As an aside, for obvious reasons, it's not a real fun job...

Re: Found: Four (4) 1/4 Ton Trailers
I know it stinks. Our area was so bad with foreclosures that they had to hire extra people even though they were laying off inspectors and permit people. They used to come out per the called in violation but had so many that the guy would cruise the whole street because it usually became neighbor against neighbor. I was painting a reading utility body in order to sell it and he doinked me for a front yard violation. My wife was freaking because I could get fined up to 200 bucks a day and I told her don't worry as they were so far behind it would be 6-9 months before a hearing could be scheduled. I saw him out a week later and he stopped and talked to me. He said if I put a tag on it and a couple of straps it would be a legal trailer. I painted and sold it and e-mailed him it was gone. He checked and e-mailed me back that ticket was closed. It has been my only brush with the law so far

You are like the only hardcore criminal I know... Geez, I dismantle, sandblast and paint in my front yard and it has never been a problem. However, it's fairly rural where I live. I have been to Fort Myers once before, and I remember it as a very nice area. I also recall taking the tour of Thomas Edison's home and museum there. I have always been an admirer of his, and I really enjoyed it. I think it was in Novermber of 1993. Seems like yesterday. And, I liked the gulf as well.Steve Webb wrote:I know it stinks. Yes it is a nice place. I have been here 45 years this July. Edison was the king of the tinkerer's. One of his quotes is "All an inventor needs is a good imagination and a big pile of junk" I grew up a mile away from his place.

ok thanks for the info. around here, we don't have codes to enforce. dogs in your rabbit pens? that's what you're 870 remington is for. drunk's car been in your road ditch too long? grab it up with your back hoe & shove it off in the creek! low life not paying the payments on the store building you sold him? drag it back home with a john deere skidder. neighbors? i got rid of those too. and moved their darn houses off. good ridance! we usually take care of our own problems ourselves.

Good for you, just don't let the big city sneak in and surround you. Only about 45,000 in Lee County in 1967 and we are over 600,000 now. Progress isn't all good.

well, it is getting closer but by the back door. back in the 70's a hunting club was whoever showed up at the store in the morning. and we run DOGS. period. slowly, city folks came up & talked the timber companies into leasing the land to them. doctors, lawyers and money people. and they STILL hunt. there has been war over hunting here. now the people that live here don't have anywhere to hunt. but know what? i found out that while mr. moneybags is at work or home that a few gallons of urine that you have been saving over in the shop corner all summer, applied liberaly around his heated shooting house will keep all but the most severly mentaly retarded deer away.

Wow, that is growth! I live in Shasta County, CA. We're between the size of Delaware and Connecticut, however our populaton is about 177,000. The population of Delaware is around 907,000 and Connecticut is around 3,580,000, so we are sparsely populated vs those land masses. We had some growth from about 77,000 in 1970 to the 177,000 today. I think we topped out at around 180,000 or so a couple of years ago, and now we are on our way back down. One needs to remember, we are in California, so almost anything to do with making a living has been systematically outlawed or banned. Anyway, lots of room to roam around here as about 90,000 of the 177,000 live in Redding, the "big" city within the county. It's about 20 miles north of me, so it will be awhile before it would encroach on our area....at least we hope.Steve Webb wrote:Good for you, just don't let the big city sneak in and surround you.
