MBT/M100/M416 comparison

Post by pvtcook » Sat Dec 05, 2009 10:34 am

Are the tubs the same size on all of these trailers? What about the frames. I know the axles, brake handle ,and lunette are different but what about the frames?
Thanks

Way back in March 2001 I put together a comparison chart for 1/4-ton trailers. I came across it again today so here it is:-

An important item to remember is the parts can be interchanged between the WWII and M100 trailers easily. The M416 is wider and the angles of the draw bars are wider so drawbars and lunette casting assembly will not work with any M100 or WWII.

One will note on M-416 Trailers that M-100 floorboards were used and narrow sections of floorboard were spliced in to fit them to the M-416 tub. The M-416 used the same Brake Backing Plates with Shoes and also the same Parking Brake Cable as MBT/M-100. 10 Leaf Springs Shackles and Shock Absorbers are all interchangeable between the MBT/M-100/M-416.

Note The WWII & M-100 Trailers have a full floating Hubs on the Axel, a 416 does not, Some of the off roaders i know have changed the axels out on their M-416's, MBT/M100's are bullet proof.

No Luke he only had one. It is primed and ready to paint. I am really impressed with its condition. all it needs is paint. Ill paint it and probably put it on the market. I dont need it Im getting close to finishing my T3.I was hoping to get some input on its worth.

Consider leaving it in primer.
1. Lowers the cost to both you and the buyer. No further out of pocket expense for you.
2. Buyer could paint it green/blue/camo/ or a civilian color
3. Your paint may not be compatible with the new owner's.
4. Allows buyer to see the excellent condition, and that there is no hidden damage.

A M-416 trailer in good condition for $350.00 is a STEAL! I know where two are near my place. One is priced at $500.00 and one is priced at $850.00.

What about the wheels? Do the willys/m100 style wheel fit the m416?

TopKick,
An M416 for $350!, that would be too good a deal for anyone to pass up, 26 years ago, I paid $399.99 for my M416 [it had 2 recapped NDT's] from a military surplus store, they had another one for $499.99
[it had 2 new NDT's], it was sold a little later on.

I once read that the reason they made the 416 three inches wider is because it would allow one more jerry can to fit width wise. Is this true? I have a M416 and M100 but never actually tried it.

I figured the M151 might be wider than the previous Willys jeeps and they matched the tread width of the M416 to the M151.
I have never owned an M151 so I can't confirm this.
