Intake Valve problems

Post by mspeters » Sat Apr 29, 2017 9:22 pm

My mite has been embarrasingly super cold blooded and hard starting. Some detective experts at Petaluma MVCC event helped me narrow down. Found a cruddy R&R'd intake valve seat from the machine shop, and combined with a valve rotator that would stick and rotate intermittently at 1/4 speed of the other valves. This cylinder PSI would vary from total zero To 125 PSI. Disassembled the rotator, cleaned and it still sticks vs the others....new valve/spring/rotator, plus a grind done, will be reinstalling in June. The new rotators are packed in heavy cosmoline and took a while to clean.

Sugggestion ....check the valve rotators when doing a full rebuild. There are small ball bearings and springs inside.

Good to know! I plan on tearing down and installing new jugs on mine this summer. I'll go through the heads as well. It's been 22 years since it's restoration :)

And, I'll have a shop to do all the work in now :D
