clutch problem?
Had depot rebuilt trans and transfer case installed 300 miles ago. All was well till a few days ago, started grinding when put in reverse or 4th, second to third fine. Since reverse is not synchronized and 4th is, am I looking at clutch problem? If I have a synchronizer problem in 4th, that would not affect reverse I don`t think. This happened all at once, not gradually. Thanks for your help, Rod.

Re: clutch problem?
Not a clutch issue. Sounds like excessive clearance on the main shaft to me.

Re: clutch problem?
Rod,
The clutch is not disengaging, sorry for the basics, but is the clutch pedal freeplay more than about 1/2 inch ?
The clutch disc hub could have been slightly bent on intall, making more sensitive to overall release throw travel....unlikey.
With a fresh clutch disc, mine needs frequent adjustment, plus the scallop cut in the pedal shaft for the thru bolt wears and results a twisted clutch pedal. Can fix with weld and grind. I recently replaced the clutch rod with a heim joint and Grade 8 threaded rod, and it is much smoother. FWIW I also replaced the bronze bushing in the pedal shaft, it was sloppy and worn out.

Re: clutch problem?
Clutch free play about 2 inches. Same as in my other mite. Like I said this happened all at once, did not slowly get worse.
