Cost of engine?

Post by hambone » Fri Dec 23, 2016 8:26 am

What would someone expect to pay for a complete rebuildable engine? What would a pristine 1960 be worth? it has original seats, fold down seats in tailgate and thin windshield, just missing engine. Thanks, Hambone

Without pictures it's kind of difficult but since you stated "pristine" I would say $3500.00. A good rebuildable engine, $500.00 provided the crank is also "pristine".

The windshield that is on it is the updated M38A1 style but it does not have the reinforcing gussets that it should have for that update.. It is missing some key parts. Check the suspension over really close for rust and cracked and broken springs. Check the front cross member in front of where the engine mounts for rust. look over all the rivet heads as when they start to corrode the heads pop off. I might adjust my original appraisal to $2500.00 to$3000.00 depending on how the chassis is.

Thanks for the info Bill, I will check it out, don't know much about the Mites but I'm getting the itch for one, if the suspension and frame check out, from what you can see, would another $3k put it back on the road? Thanks, Hambone

Thanks, he is asking $4k, after a thorough inspection of the items you mentioned, I'm thinking of a $2.5k offer, going to make contact with him Tues., will keep you updated, my sister-in-law just moved to Eugene, going to be visiting Oregon soon. :D
Thanks, Hambone
