Mite on eBay

Postby Bill H. » Tue Jun 19, 2012 2:17 pm

Does anyone know who is selling the M422 on eBay? I sent the seller a grip of questions. There is a great deal incorrect, wrong with this Mite and am kind of wondering why the seller is listed it as "AMC Mighty Mite Military Jeep - Totally Restored Collectable M422". The one thing that really caught my eye and concerns me is the front driver's side leaf spring is broken and missing a leaf. That is no way to "totally restore" a vehicle.

Here is what I sent:

Can you please answer a few questions about the condition of the following?

Front driver's side leaf spring, intake/snorkel cover (homemade?), gear shift opening in transmission cover and transmission cover looks to be welded, fording ventilation system (line missing), suspension bushings, tie rod ends, paint application (spray gun or spray cans, do you have the correct windshield for it (the one on it is an M38A1 leans back too far) , was this Mite taken down to the bare frame with all components either rebuilt or replaced as applicable, in tank filter, why are the screws missing from the master cylinder cover, what is the frame number, body number, are the idiot lights working, what are the three round head carriage bolts in the windshield adapter, condition of wiring harnesses, and carburetor condition (restored, rebuilt or NOS) Thank you very much in advance.

It is really cool to see a shorty for sale but I am more than a bit concerned about the asking price. :?

Bill,
This thread can stay as you posed a Technical Question and not advertised an Ebay Auction

Did you look it over pretty good? To me, it looks like a rattle can paint job (cosmetic) restoration only. There is no way he had the springs off of it and let that broken one slip by. Oh, I'm sure he saw it but..... There are just too many little issues with it. Pop rivets on the data plates? Really? :? I see maybe $8000.00 but probably more like $6000.00 :|

I guess what gets to me is "totally restored". With just a glance at the pics, I noticed an M38A1 windshield, an inside rearview mirror but no outside mirror and a missing data plate (service data) and, of course, the heater operating instruction plate but no heater. Also, jumping out at me are the rivets/machine screws on the hood holding the vent grill in place. Oh, too the "always missing" jack and tire tool. Overall, a nice 422 but not totally restored.

Well, some info got thru - the description is somewhat better - except the "restored to original specifications" part:
If I am not mistaken, all mites originally had the thin windshield and No. 547 would have had the tailgate mounted seats.
Still a nice mite, if somewhat over priced.
