Re: MIGHTY MITE SERIAL NUMBERS
What serial numbers did the M422 begin and end at?
Did it begin at 001?
I'm asking because I was under the impression there were only 1200 422's made but I know of an M422 with serial number 1265. David

Re: MIGHTY MITE SERIAL NUMBERS
Some thought lying in the back of my conscious says that the first production M422 was serial number 100 - is this right?

Re: MIGHTY MITE SERIAL NUMBERS
The first M422 was serial number 101. The numbers 101-106 or 107 were delivered very early as test units. I have number 107 and I think the delivery date was sometime early to mid-1959. I have to take a look to be sure. It was either the first production unit delivered or one of the test vehicles, depending upon which account you believe.
I have a report from AMC dated 5 January 1959 stating that the first two test vehicles had been completed and would be retained by AMC for testing at their proving ground in Burlington, WI. The report went on to say that 3,4,5,& 6 were scheduled to be delivered in March and April of 1959.
An account in the August 1960 issue of Leatherneck Magazine refers to the first seven "pre-production pilot models" being produced and tested in 1959, and goes on to state that the Marine Corps received 243 production models during the period of March through May, 1960. This would account for the entire initial contract for 250 units.
I find it amazing that Ron Alred has both #103 and #106! Did you acquire them at the same place and at the same time? I'd be really interested to know where they came from. They were definitely pre-production. Were the rear bumpers perforated like the front one, or are they solid? Could you please look at the data plates for delivery dates? Thanks!

Re: MIGHTY MITE SERIAL NUMBERS
If we are confident that the first was 101 and 1250 were built then 1351 must be the last 422. Anyone own a 422 with a serial number higher than 1265? David

Re: MIGHTY MITE SERIAL NUMBERS
Theoretically, 1351 should be the number of the first M422A1. Let's expand the question to also include this: Does anyone own an M422A1 with a serial number under 1400?Post by acmack » Wed Apr 29, 2009 3:12 pm

Re: MIGHTY MITE SERIAL NUMBERS
As documented in my thread, I have #3322.
Although, at this moment, I don't remember the body number. My hood number is not correct as I made it up for my own reasons.
