looking for "newish" m152
Hello all, newbie here, just registered with the site as I kept getting pushed here in my searches. I'm looking for a mutt. condition wise, I'm looking for something that I can buy and immediately drive around the neighborhood to annoy my liberal neighbors but certainly not looking for conurs model. Will really be used to drive around in the country and hit a few parades. Being a recently retired Marine I'm looking to get something that I can customize to match the ones I served with in Iraq over the years. Any thoughts on where to start, what to look for?
thanks!
joe
thanks!

Hello Joe.
If you do't mind me saying.... you need to give your location..... there are lots of members from all around the world...you could be anywhere.
You don't have to give your full address but a general location is essential.

M152? You mean M151A2 I would guess. Yes location helps becuse it narrows down the area of vehicles offed up. There are many 151's for sale. Are you looking for specifically and A2? Being a Marine and in Iraq I am thinking there were not many 151's left in service other than FAV's and 825's. Is that the variant you are looking for?

Thanks Ken, Ron, Rick,
I'm located in Washington DC.
To be honest, I'm not that spooled up on which version - just looking for the newest model. I suppose I need to do some research.

What years were you in Iraq? How far are you willing to travel to get one? It is strongly suggested to preview one before buying doe to the propensity for them to rot underneath. A lot of the times the pictures do not show the whole story. Also if you see one far off you might be able to contact a member here or on the g838.org site that lives in that area that could look at it for you and give you a detailed report. You would still have transport fees that you would have to figure into the total price. A good driver without rot and in motor pool ready condition will run you from ~5000.00 up. In the 5000 dollar range you will have to look hard to find one without some kind of rust though. The A2 is the newest version but there were many different variations of the A2 for different tasks.

Was in Iraq in 2004 and 2005 in Al Ahnbar Province for second battle of Fallujah with RCT-1. Also active duty during Desert Storm but the war ended before my unit was able to get on the plane!
I'm willing to travel a bit, east coast I imagine. Not a fan of a rusted out vehicle - what do you think a fair price range for something that's the next step up would be - a good weekend project / saturday driver?

Joe:
If you were deployed in 04-05, you may have riden around in a HUMVEE, but I would think not in the old M151A2 Jeeps by then. (never saying never though)
Those were basically out of US Army service by '92, and the Marines by about '95-96. There were a few versions kept around by Marines as they fit well in the Navy helicopters, but for the most part the Marines and Army switched to the HUMVEE and pushed the M151A2's out of use.
Perhaps looking over some photo's of in google images would help.
Of course a MUTT will not set you back as much as a HUMVEE, that's for sure.

I'm certain I was in HUMVEE's and not M151A2's.... I should have been more specific! Our sf units used those for quite some time after they passed out of general service for just that reason - they could be easily lifted and embarked on ship. What was rolling around Iraq this time around was the G-wagon, 290 GDT. When I initially enlisted in the 80's you could still see Mutts rolling around Camp Lejuene.
