FORD M151A1 Data Plates

Post by D Pizzoferrato » Tue Oct 02, 2012 10:46 am

Having recently finished restoring this http://www.odcloth.com/m151/a1three.jpg as my driver to get back and forth to the boat;
I couldn't bear to put the old faded and painted over data plate back on the dash. In looking over the generic repro data plates, as well as the original replacement plates with the blank fields for Manufacturer and Contract number, I wanted something that looked more original for my 66 Ford M151A1.
In order to get one plate made with the original text, as opposed to the "fill in the blank" data fields, I had some short runs done of the three Ford built M151A1 Data Plates.
Contract Numbers available are:
DA-20-113-AMC-02787(T)(MYP)
DA-20-113-AMC-07507(T)(MYP)
DAAE-06-68-C-0001(MYP)
These cover all of the Ford M151A1 production
Here are some pics of one of the plates

http://www.odcloth.com/m151/dataplate3.jpg
The mounting holes are not drilled. You will need to drill them. I taped my original plate over the new plate and drilled the 4 holes with my drill press in very short order.
You will also need to stamp, or have engraved, your Serial Number and Delivery Date. The Inspectors Mark is already present, as shown.
Not trying to get rich, or get into the data plate business, so here is the deal.
Within the US, shipped Small Priority Flat Rate Box, per plate $30.00
Outside the US, shipped Small Priority Flat Rate Box, per plate $43.00
I chose the above shipping methods for a couple of reasons. The box will protect the plate from bending. I can do all of this online and put the parcels out for my daily mail pickup. Using other rates, such as First Class Mail requires me to make a trip into town to visit the Post Office and do the paperwork and mailing there. Using the cheaper method, A) doesn't get the nice protective box and B) causes me more work than I want to do for the price. So to keep it simple and equitable, refer to the Prices/Priority Shipping above.
Paypal payment preferred. My Paypal ID is the same as my email. Hover your cursor over the email icon at the right and you should see it displayed below.
When making payment, indicate Contract Number in the Paypal message box.
I have 25 plates available total of the three contract numbers. They were made proportionate to vehicle production per contract.
I'm offering these on g503.com and g838.com. What doesn't sell will get listed on "that auction site" when I begin my winter listings. If I need to get more of a specific Contract Number made for this initial offering, I can do that, and will make that decision based on demand.

I know this is a really dumb question, but would you happen to have any of the data plates left for the M151A1?? My problem here is, I am NOT sure when the MUTT was built, the only data I have on it is Ordinance Body 17400.... not other info is available, or at least, I cannot find it anywhere on line. My M151A1 does have a blank data plate on it.

I thought you found the body tag? That will have the info you need on it. there should be more numbers than the one you give.

The tag I found was on the drivers side frame rail, and the only numbers it had was body 17400 and assembly 8754459 and three small Ordinance stamps. The tag was held in by two large rivets. Admittedly, I didn't remove the radiator to see if there was any other information there. Would you suggest that I raise the radiator??

Yes I would since the tag is usually partially under the grill. The radiator can stay where it is, just take out the bolts under the fenders into the grill. About five bolts on each side. You may not have to unplug the light wires, you can probably lift the grill up and out at the bottom enough to see.

When you sort that out, I still have data plates.

I had the grill out before, so I guess the next thing is to raise the radiator..... and I am out of propane, it's snowing... and it's cold..... sheesh, I sound like my wife!!

Pulling the radiator will accomplish nothing. It sits on two supports that come out from the engine. There is nothing under it at all. It is designed that way so the whole powerpak can come out without draining anything. Set it on the floor and start it right up, the radiator stays with it hooked up.

Thanks for that info Rick, that will save me a lot of work and grief. I guess I'll just go with the 17400 number and present that to the state of Michigan. I ended up doing the same thing with the M725 Kaiser.... and the Secretary of State did not balk at all.

Hey Rick, can you enlighten me on how many bolts hold in the brake & clutch assembly?? I've taken out 4 so far, but it still doesn't want to budge. Again, any info would be greatly appreciated.

happy new year!!

I want to say 6 but it has been a while since I had one out. Why are you pulling it? The steering column will be in the way unless you take the clutch pedal off or the column out. IF it is an A2 column to match the wheel it can be disconnected at the rag joint before the steering box but if it is an A1 or earlier then the whole column and box are one unit and have to come out the bottom.

You might want to open a new thread in the technical section since this has moved to technical and is still in the for sale section.
