Re: M151 Vietnam military jeep motor
Are you sure this isn't an old motor taken out to be sent back for re-building?

Re: M151 Vietnam military jeep motor
No rebuild tag, No oil filter or even the adapter and some really crusty pats. That was the take out going back to depot.

Looks like it was stored in a swamp. I'd be careful of this thing by the looks of the flywheel...I'd want to see if it even turns over at this point.

Re: M151 Vietnam military jeep motor
I originally found this motor 20 years ago at a yard sale, along with two more. The man had bought them from the post office, which had bought them from the government. They had no idea that these 151 motors would not fit in their postal jeeps. So, they were auctioned off. Upon finding these motors at the yard sale, 20 years ago, I opened one with wrenches. Inside was all the charts telling how much each cylinder had been honed or bored and every last detail concerning the rebuild of the motor. I found the man's phone number 20 years later, which is now, and called him to see if he still had these three motors. He said that he had sold two of them for pump motors on ranches for irrigating. But the one I had opened was still in the barn. When I went to purchase the motor, the top was off and covered in hay and pigeon poop. We took motor out of the container, steamed cleaned both the container and motor and put it back in. Generator & starter did not survive. Were rusted. The paperwork didn't survive either. Took the valve cover off this motor and it is brand new rebuilt. I don't expect anybody to purchase this motor w/o taking the pan off and being totally satisfied. I only bought this motor hoping it would be a real good deal to somebody. Hope it helps somebody who takes the time to see what it is. They will be getting a good deal. As to anybody else, it does look like it was stored in a swamp, but that's what makes it a good deal. Will take best offer.

Re: M151 Vietnam military jeep motor
Actually I think I see the rebuild tag on the container?? I see a lot of stuff there that would scare me first and foremost is the missing oil filter adapter. There is very heavy rust in the oil passages so you know the motor will have to come apart and have the pump replaced. The PCV fitting is broken on top of the carb and I will bet that the carb housing is also broken. The radiator mount/lift bracket is bent pretty good. That could be replaced with the one from the motor that is being replaced. Flywheel will have to be replaced or cut. Carburetor inlet fitting looks like it broke off and the pieces were taped together. A lot of work.

If that were a rebuild would it have the water temp sending unit in the back of the head or a plastic plug? Also, plastic caps/plugs over the carb inlet, distrubutor electrical connection point, vacumn pump, water pump?

If you decide to part it out, I'd be interested in all of the vacuum and vent lines, clamps and all associated fittings, vacuum pump and front radiator support. I'm reworking an A2 engine back to an A1 configuration.

That shipping container looks like it would make one hell of a BBQ grille!

I'm about 19 years ahead of the curve on that suggestion

As I recall, I used a shipping/storage container for an M211/M135 Hydramatic Transmission.
Offset smoker with stainless steel water pans as well as being fire brick lined to cook over direct heat.
There's been plenty of massive amounts of good stuff served off of it over the last 2 decades.

Re: M151 Vietnam military jeep motor PRICE REDUCED
I used to use the heck out of it Bob. Didn't need much of an excuse to do some ribs, turkeys or brisket. Partys of 20ish was common. The fav for everyone was the slow cooked and turned pile of shrimp, chicken, pork, beef, sweet onion, red, yellow and orange sweet peppers, pineapple chunks and garlic chunks. Not only was it awesome tasting, it was colorfull as he!!.
Then I was introduced to a Traeger Wood Pellet Smoker Grill. google that one up. I'm hooked. I do everything from fall off the bones baby back ribs to wood fired pizzas.
And now back to the topic. I'd sure like to get the above mentioned parts.
