Floyd-Raymond---You're both right! It is an Encore replica-bodied M151 and yes, it is very mixed up. Lots of inter-mingled parts and components. Encore was a manufacturer in Florida that, for a time, was replicating M151 unitized bodies. By adding the suspension and trim parts of your choosing, you could effectively have a new M151 vehicle. Just not a "real" M151. There was one like this for sale from Idaho Motor Pool(www.idahomotorpool.com). In fact, if I remember correctly, it too was painted tan and had a mish-mash of military and civilian parts. Oh well, each to his own, eh? Perhaps if Rickf is in earshot he could give more perspective on this one as well as the Encore company; He seems to be quite knowledgeable about these things. How 'bout it Rick? Can you help us out some palley? St.paulpipefitter

From what I have read here and elsewhere, the main minuses are that the uni-body is not a very close (in most people's opinions) copy. The plus is that they were new, came with a valid title, had a small warranty, were thicker guage steel, and the seems were butt welded and not overlapped and spot welded.

What would this type of vehicle be worth dollar-wise?
Is $5,000 a good "ballpark" figure?

I am here but I am in no way an expert on Encore's. I do know someone who has one and while it ia Not a Mutt, it is close. They are definitlt heavier guage steel and as was said the body look's much cleaner. This one on epay had a rops kit in it at one time. Personally I like the Encore and would not mind having one but to each their own. The one I know about is set up as an A1 with all the correct lights but with the A2 suspension.

I know where one is for sale

Post by lten1063 » Tue Oct 23, 2007 6:24 pm

I know where one is / maybe for sale but the guy wants 8K for it. He ask me what I would give for it and I said "could go 1K to 2K he almost threw me off of his property.

Get this! its a Encore body but retro fitted to the M151 Unibody frame. They cut the old tub off and welded in flanges to bolt the tub onto the frame.

I was going to use it for parts and may use the Encore tub as donor metal or sell it. But I said good luck and my offer is still open. That was a year ago.

The state of Wisconsin will not accept a title transfer on these vehicles as I have talked to several people in the last several years one who was burned on the purchase and another who was smart enough to check it out with the state before doing the purchase.

I know someone here in Wisconsin who has one without a title (really nice vehicle though) who wants to sell it if anyone is interested.

JIM HYBICKI--Hi Jim! I am searching for an M151 that is decent and reliable but not a "trailer queen". This one you mention above, is it an original M151 or an Encore replica? Thanks alot! St.paulpipefitter

Yeah Alex at Idaho MotorPool still has an Encore, asking $8500.
This guy picked his up at $6500 so he saved a couple grand.
We got our 151 from Alex several years ago, I wouldn't mind having the
A2 suspension, but just having one to drive around is fun.

Ray had it right, if anyone recalls I had spent a small fortune on the Growler versions of these in Kit form when I retired hoping to get more Jeep owners into the the M151 design.

I lost a good share of my savings and some of my pension on a adventure that cost me a ton of money.

I lost my shirt on the deal as after I built them from the ground up, no one wanted anything to do with them.

I ended up selling them for about $5,000.00 each even though they were worth at the time around $15 grand built.

No one would buy any of them and I was left holding five of these cool looking great driving titled and road safe repro's.

Biggest blunder I ever made in my life, as I was hoping to lure guys who owned stock M151's into having a M151 Jeep just to play in.

That was my idea was to have a stock M151 for show and a Growler to go beat the crap out of...LOL

Ray was Right they are built better then a stock M151 and all the bells and whistles Uncle Sam did not want any of us to have with our Retired Rigs, have of which by some Miracle and Grace of God survived Demil.
