Not for the purest
While sitting around in the frozen south I decided to install my new R/T -BR-549 radio [very rare] i only had to drill two small holes to secure it, and it can be removed in less then one minute. I enjoy setting in the jeep in the warm garage while drinking my fav. beverage and listing to WW-2 music like the White cliffs of Dover, Well meet again, Glenn Miller, etc. while waiting on spring.

Re: Not for the purest
Hello GI,
I like it
I will do something like that as well, and I have on a couple of my jeeps
existing holes from an original radio that was mounted by the army during WW2.
Thanks,
Ray

That was a field mod. under heavy combat condition using a hand drill, but I did just have a cold one using my bottle opener on the dash.Jeeps4Brains wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2018 4:17 amDid you drill the sound holes in that box after your favorite beverage? But I like it!

Did you fire both barrels from that shotgun at the same time - or just use a single barrel and fire it twice?GI. wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2018 5:26 amThat was a field mod. under heavy combat condition using a hand drill, but I did just have a cold one using my bottle opener on the dash.Jeeps4Brains wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2018 4:17 amDid you drill the sound holes in that box after your favorite beverage? Either way - it is a nice pattern - for a shotgun.

Re: Not for the purest
If you look real close, and connect the dot's [holes], you will clearly see my first name initial on the left pattern and my last name initial on the right pattern, I purposely did this for security reason's, ...That's all I can say about that.

I looked. I don't see it. Maybe your picture is upside down?

Gunnut,
You must be looking at it with the door open, look at it with the door closed, on the left pattern you can clearly see the LARGE "G", same as the first initial of your name, and on the right pattern their is clearly a LARGE "O".... Thank's for looking.

Oh, I see it now.
At first I was looking with my eyes open.
I can see it - now that I have my eyes closed.

Re: Not for the purest
I do wish that i had been more careful drilling the holes, but i was just playing around with the old box to see if it would fit in the jeep with the little radio in it, after i cleaned it up and painted it i thought it looked pretty good, so i installed it. i am not trying to pass it off as a real radio, just a way hide my CD player.
It is the same size as the real R/T 524 in my M151A1 , my thought was to make the box the same size as a 524 and put a canvas cover on it so it would not matter about the pattern of the sound hole's, then i found out the cost of a real canvas cover for the 524 radio, most over $100.
Anyway i'm stuck with a shotgun pattern radio box while looking for a canvas cover for it.
Mark,
My wife think's i'm crazy also, she does not understand why i like Beer, Guns, and Military jeep's.

If you line the box with some sound-deadening material the quality of the sound emanating from the box will improve dramatically. medium density foam works well...that box is a bit of an echo chamber as it is. attach it all around with some contact cement and then leave two 6" holes on the front door for the speaker holes.

Thank's for that advice. I have not tried the radio out in the box yet, and i did not think about the quality of the sound in that empty box, but I understand what your saying. Again thank's.
